Removing the hub - problems

  Mk1 Renault Clio RT 1.4
Trying to change my bearings on my clio (Mk1 1.4RT) atm, I am trying to remove the hub so I can get to the bearings but it just won't come off. I have read you need to hit the end with a rubber mallet, I have also tried using a puller and pushing the shaft out but even with large ammounts of pressure it just wouldn't come out.

Any ideas?

I have also tried lubricating everything in sight, LOL.

undo the driveshaft nut?
have you disconnected the steering arm from the hub?
undo the two bolts holding the lower ball joint to the wishbone?
undo the two bolts holding the strut to the hub?

job done

OK - after trying a hub puller, a random other puller, and smacking it for a whole afternoon I still can't get the thing off :(

Is it possible to take the CV off without taking the driveshaft out - I have read it isn't possible?

What might have happened to stop it being able to come off easily?

Still need to attack the passengers side - hopefully won't be such a pain :(
