Took my mk2 172 in for its 24000 service (after being quoted 2 conflicting prices). I told them I wanted the 4k rattle sorting and explained it was probably the mid section of the exhaust. Also I wanted a new screw for the engine plastic cover which had dissapeared since the last service.
Had a phonecall yesterday evening to say they were investigating the rattle and needed to keep the car overnight as they needed to remove the upper part of the centre console, I agreed as I wanted them to sort the rattle out.
Rang me today to say everything was sorted, the woman I spoke to said that everything was done and that they needed to order me a new oxygen sensor on the exhaust as mine was loose/damaged?
Goes to the dealer, goes upto the counter, asks if eveything is done and gets told yes. Questioned the oxygen sensor and was told I didnt need a oxygen sensor? Questioned if they had fixed the 4k rattle, the reply was, keep your eye on it, got told they couldnt find anything behind the centre console (surprise surprise!) but one of the wires was rattling against the exhaust so they taped it up out of the way. As the bloke was telling me this he was reading of the details the technician had wrote. I asked if I could have a copy which he didnt seem too happy giving me but photocopied for me in the end. Driving home seemed ok, no chance to really rag it to see if the rattle had gone (try tommorow on the motorway). On getting home I checked around the car (which had lots of dirty hand prints inside), I noticed that on the plastic engine cover they had painted one of the screws black (I found a screw that fit, so as to stop it rattling), what was the point? Also I checked the service checklist which they tick off as they do the service. They hadnt ticked the pollen filter (and hadnt charged me for it either), I was under the impression that this needed to be done every 12000 miles on a 172?
Finally I looked at the photocopied technician report, it basically said they had looked around the car to find the 4k rattle, took out the centre console but couldnt find it, looked underneath the car and taped up one of the oxygen sensor wires which was rattling. Now heres the best bit, there was some writing which had been crossed out, but I managed to work out what it said - FORGET IT, IT WILL BE BACK (I think he crossed it out b4 photocopying it!) When I read this I was fuming, what the hell does this mean, they couldnt be bothered to fix it or what? Only tommrow will tell, but if the rattle is still there the service manager will be hearing from me!
Phew, sorry for the rant, I really was hoping that all the dodgy experiences people have been having with Renault dealers wasnt going to happen to me and now it has.
