Renault Warranty

  Ziel Nurburgring

When and if you purchased your clio, when the dealer says "of course youve got your 3 year warranty (I think he mentioned it was 1 year manufac and 2 years dealer), did they mention you would have to cough up on any repairs in years 2 and 3? Bit naughty that they dont say you have to pay a %, but i suppose at least its not %100 though

Well so far I have had plenty of expensive warranty work carried out in years 1 and 2 and have not had to pay a penny.

Items include:

1. New exhaust
2. New Climate control computer
3. New CV gaiter
4. New steering wheel

Never mentioned to me that I had to pay a percentage.

It is very very likely that Renault will NOT pay the full 100% cost on Wear and Tear Items if they fail whilst still under warranty..

These would include items like Wheel Bearings, Shock absorbers, Ball Joints, Bushes etc etc

A couple of examples today:

1: A 2 year old Scenic with 42K on the clock.. The customer had to pay 40% of the cost of wheel bearing replacement..

2: A 18 month old Megane Cabrio with a Faulty electric antenna.. Customer had to pay 60% of the cost..

These are wear and tear items.. However if it can be proved that they failed due to a manufacturing problem then Renault would pay 100% of the claim

the percentage idea only applies in two areas:-

1,a wear and tear considered part fails prematurely. eg-a clutch goes in the 2nd year (not covered) but the mileage etc gives the impression its worn out to early. renault could pay the full amount or they may offer to pay a contribution towards the repair. the amount they pay is given as a percentage of the total repair.

2,a vehicle is out of the 3 year warranty period but a major/expensive part like an engine/gearbox goes. due to its premature failure renault may pay a contribution towards the repair. the percentage they pay is based on vehicle mileage and the particular part involved.

note-look in your warranty booklet to see whats not covered in the 2nd/3rd year. most of these are wear and tear items like brakes etc, water leaks (rain water leaking in) and interior rattles from plastic trims etc. you may still get contribution from renault towards these parts depending on the mileage etc.

Yup forgot about the outside warranty area..

But also remember that "Service History" and if Customer Services are involved your "value as a customer" (ie the amount of cash that you have generated, eg: cost of car, servicing bills etc) will also be taken into account in the final decision.

Also consider that although ICM may show that Renault will pay a %.. Say 50% of the cost of a job for example.. When the dealer warranty claim is made that it could actually be a lower contribution figure in reality and in some cases they will not pay anything if the supporting documents.. Ie the history etc is not correct..

Everything is listed in the warranty handbook....some things are covered for 1 year, some for 2 and some for 3years

any dealer will not carry out any work/claim before checking evidence of a full service history. renault wont pay anything without this.
