Haven't been on the site for quite some time but thought this might be of interest - I have just had my windscreen replaced by RAC auto windscreens. When they had fininished i checked the car (182 full fat) and the service light was on. I called Renault (with the windscreen fitter still with me) and they said that this happens all the time when the screen is replaced due to the rain sensor. They advised that whenever the screen is replaced the "gel pack" on the rain sensor must be replaced also, regardless of whether it is intact or not!!! The screen fitter was suprised about this and showed me the little bit of silicon like plastic on the sensor that they were on about (it is the splodge of gunk that presses against the screen and there was nothing wrong with it). After speaking to them himself he agreed that they needed to replace it as part of the job.
if my insurance wasn't paying for the screen it would have cost another £60 plus VAT for the gel pack from Renault!!!
Be warned - this is another unavoidable built in Renault rip-off! The fitter told me that loads of cars have the sensors and this is now the only model that requires a new gel pack.
My advice - If you need a windscreen replacing on a Clio and you have rain sensor/auto lights make sure when you book it with the windscreen replacement company that they order a new gel pack as well as the screen.
Now I've got to wait for RAC windscreens to get the gel pack and fit it and then go to a Renault dealer to have the Service light cancelled!
