Retrofit Willy Suspension - What Parts

Good luck mate! Let us hear how it went in the end!

You cannot use your existing driveshafts, Willy ones are longer than ones in Valver, ive seen both on the table and the difference is significant! If u use your Valver shafts the problem could be that when steering to full lock, shaft will came out from the diff/gearbox...

Saw willy shafts in eurocarparts for 99£, not bad methinks!

And thanks for the ARB info...if anything new comes up with it plz pm me or something... :)

Soz - should have been clearer; i meant ill get williams driveshafts and try and salvage my existing toothed rings from my 16v driveshafts if the willy ones dont have them.

Cheers for the support though - going to be very interesting to see it done! :)

I wonder how many people have actually done the conversion though? I was telling my sister what im planning and shes already getting worried as there doesnt appear to be that much info in the subject. Saying that, anything involving my car worries my family....!

the wishbones are slightly diff, but fit, and are diff part numbers.

The ARBs are the same thickness and shape, use the same bushes and mountings, so they are the same i think, although the part number is different.

Cheers Ben! Very useful info for me!!!

Is it possible that they use different part numbers so they can price the parts for Willy different. Just get the idea because my "local" Reno dealer quoted me 600 quid for the non-abs driveshaft. And the 19 1.8 16v shaft was 100 quid... hmm...

600!!

He must have been having a laugh m8! Think theyre about 100 from eurocarparts aint they?

Id have slapped him if hed said that to me i think! :cry:

Yup, near or over 600 (1100 euro cos i live in scandinavia) that is (and crap service, bullying etc) why i never visit the dealer again. Now i order all the stuff i need from GB. And my local garage is small but Renault approved, they do all the works cheap and are good blokes! Nice and easy... :cool:

Willy driveshaft is £175 from Reno.

Mat.
In Scandinavia we can only dream for that kind of prices :cry:, That is why i order all the parts i need from your country. And no one really knows nothing about Williams (5 cars in country i live) so thats why this forum is soooo important for us. Big thank yous for everyone who provided info again! :D

Mat,

cheers for that - i spoke to Paul16v about that one last week and he said willy driveshafts, shocks, arb and R19 wishbones (they must be the same as willy ones then). Apparently he Paul16v also had willy track on his 2ltr conversion...

Anyway, dealer just phoned - my shocks and wishbones have arrived so away to pick them up and order the rest of the stuff....

:)

Update!

Just been up and collected the shocks/wishbones and have ordered the ARB and stuff ill need to mount it. On the parts description, the ARB bushes have "R19" in them so they must be the same after all. All this stuff is due wednesday so ill just need the driveshafts after that - think ill try eurocarparts as they seem cheaper. As for the difference between a R19 driveshaft and a willy one, ive been told (Paul Mitchell) that the willy ones are thicker so maybe you could use them in this conversion. I can only guess that the extra thickness is to handle more torque??

If anyones interested (or might be kind enough to double check my list), here is the parts list below;

77 00 838 096 (Williams Front Shocks) - X2 - £81.34,
60 01 025 842 (Williams RH Wishbone) - X1 - £48.30
60 01 025 841 (Williams LH Wishbone) - X1 - £48.30,
60 01 025 814 (Anti Roll Bar) - X1 - £72.11

Theres also some "bit and bobs" (inc. the bushes) i got as well (asked the guy what would be needed to fit the ARB and was given the following. I could probably salvage the nut/bolt from my existing setup but theyre cheap enough to replace with new so thought i may as well;

77 00 784 170 (Bush ARB R19) - X1 - £5.68
77 00 785 788 (Bush ARB R19) - X1 - £5.68
77 03 002 116 (Screw M8-2) - X2 - £1.38
77 03 035 027 (Nut) - X1 - £0.79
77 03 034 017 (Nut 8X125) - X1 - £0.36
77 00 784 169 (ARB Clip) - X1 - £3.66
82 00 078 548 (ARB Clip) - X1 - £2.79

Total so far is £317.66 from a dealer so could get some stuff cheaper either by going secondhand, aftermarket or specialist (e.g BB). Driveshafts are still to come though......
