i recently did an LED conversion on my dash, i can tell you with the digital display type on a MK2 they should be just under the bottom line 0 mph 0 rev obv.
what i have noticed tho is when you turn key while holding stalk button (going into dash diagnostic check mode), the dials can move down lower and lower when you repeat it several times. i think its an automatic feature to reset it to proper position as it stops doing it eventually (to test this i had my dial set at 1000revs and it kept droppign everytime untill it hit the zero default mark).
