Reverse light LED bulbs

  Suzuki Ignis Sport
Can somebody reccomend me some decent ones? Not sure if to go SMD or just bog standard LED? Preferably ones off eBay :)

Don't use LEDs - people will struggle to see them when it's sunny or daylight.

The ones I have fitted are perfectly visible during the day.

Perfectly noticeable during the day, and in the second picture you wouldn't even see that the light was on if it was a conventional bulb.

I can't see them in the daytime pictures, and if I crashed into you I'd blame you for having s**t reversing lights.

The problem is that the lenses in the light cluster were not designed to be used with LEDs - they are designed to reflect the light that comes from a conventional bulb which is something LEDs won't do.

Surely this is the most relevant point? They don't really improve the look of the car, and in the event an accident happens as a result of your non-standard reverse lights, regardless of whether you say you can see them, the person who doesn't see them will have a legitimate reason to blame you for any accident? What's wrong with the standard bulbs?

the lens directs the light to the rear as it comes at all directions from a filament lamp

with an led the lens isn't really required as the light is directed by the led itself

i'd like to see a side by side day time shot (1 filament and 1 LED)

It's directed in one direction only - correct. The actual light output when using a normal bulb with reflectors is greater than the small output focused in one direction from a small LED.

Audis and other cars that use LEDs on taillights are designed differently and even they don't use LED reverse light bulbs.

I'd also like to see a comparison just out of interest. I can't say I've ever seen someone reversing and thought 'those bulbs look w**k'. I have however thought 'f**k he's reversing' when I've not seen the lights properly and they're coming towards me.

I'll see if I can do a comparison tomorrow.

The beam is spread out over 120 degrees, which is perfectly adequate.

jesus, I'm not sure, but the latest Jaguar XF's use LEDs IIRC. I know for certain that all our region's ambulances at the moment use LEDs for reversing too.

Certainly anyone who's been behind me when I've been reversing have had no problems seeing them, I think what isn't coming out well in the pictures is that although these are pinpoints of light (instead of a spread out dim glow which gets glared out as soon as strong sunlight hits the reflector), they are very bright pinpoints of light and you absolutely will notice them. If anyone had expressed any form of concern about the visibility of the lights during the day, they'd have come out before now.

I can hardly see the lights in the daytime pics either , especially the 2nd one . Like Dink and Jesus said , you need a multi-directional led because the reflector and lens are designed to work with a filament lamp which is multi-directional . You'd be better off with something like this led lamp :

The light output from those kinds of lights is so poor I wouldn't even bother touching them. CREE chips are far, far more powerful.
