Dont think i have actually lost to any VW yet, but not really been up against many.

I know there a lot of quick veedubs out there but then when youve been around for over 20 years you have to think, When is it time to move on?

i had the legs on a VR6 (no bodykit version if that makes a difference??) from 20-90. Not much in it though, id say the VR6 was quicker than the Eilise i raced.

i wouldnt say a mk 3 golf would be any faster than a clio 16v and im sure if id spent the money that u have putting a supercharger on a valver than it would be v fast as well. oh and welcome

Well ive only had my Willie for a week and come up against a mk3 16V and I was quicker. In my old cars ive some up against a few;Fiesta RS1800 was slightly slower than a mk2 16V but it was quicker than a mates 8V MK2. My Fiesta RST was very similar to a MK2 16V until i chipped it then it blew away my wokmates VR6. Its was sligtly faster than my mates 16v Mk2 turbo until the corners but he has got a Leda suspension. I also had a MK2 16V Campain for over a year.:) Never got the planned VR6 and aslong as my Willie doesnt die then probably never will now.

we can tel you dont post much..... but 8!!!!!

Anyway, a 20V turbo and supercharged MK1....sorted.

Saw the blue MK1 20v on TBs at coombe during the VW/Audi day. nice, but the worlds biggest nerd was driving.....badly.

Also, the MK1 20v turbo was there, that was rapid.

and for VWs, no offence, im a HUGE mk1 fan, and my mates got one. But they got progressively larger and slower, including the engine sizes...lol

There may well be a VW that would piss all over me but I havent run into it yet.

When I do I will as usual give him a friendly thumbs up as he flys past me.

my mate owns a MK2 G60 which pisses all over me at every given opportunity, speed, weather.........you get the picture. although it has had ALOT of work(shorter s/charger pulley, stage 4 charger, chip, coilovers etc.) i have beaten many MK4 20vs, MK2 16Vs, one MK4 2l 8V, and when my said mate took his car in to dubsport for a new radiator they gave him a standard G60 that i was level with through first and second and i started to pull away form there!

I "raced" a VR6 on the motorway (M5 i think) a few weeks back, although there was nothing in it I would say he was a little quicker, this was from about 80-!25. Unfortunately I did have a completely full car, boot fully loaded with books, back seats covered in stuff and a pretty heavy tank (but then he could have too)

yeah, i wouldnt mess with a 2.8 V6 at any speed above 80, i would have though i would get ripped apart. my mate old VR6 would throw me back in my seat at EVERY gear change upto around 150MPH (indicated) it just had I/K and exhaust, the torque on them is incredible

...untill you came to a bend in the road then youd murder him, the handling on those things is less than impressive. Ive out-dragged Golf VR6s to 100 in my 306 Rallye so no doubt the Cup will be even more impressive. Corrado VR6s are a different kettle of fish however.

Hmmm Corrado VR6s have the more powerful engine - I think they are based on the MK2 golf? Some will maybe correct me on that - they are supposed to be great cars.

The only VWs that have raced me have been a Mk3 GTi 16v and a Mk4 GTi 1.8 Turbo. Id far rather come up against a Mk1/2 GTi or a Mk3 VR6 as I respect these cars.

The Mk3 GTi 16v driver looked preplexed and couldnt seem to understand why a Clio was beating him away from the lights every time. It was actually quite funny as he was coming back for more, like the time before and the time before were freak accidents.

The Mk4 GTi was on my tail on the motorway, so I let it pass and gave chase. I was surprised that I actually reeled it in so quickly - must be its weight problem.

you see, im not too sure where everyone gets this idea that VRs are sh*t handlers? my mates was on KONI adjustables and that took corners like a go-kart. dare i say it even handled as well as my clio on coilovers? although he is an exceptional driver and knew that car like the back of his hand, the corrados came with 2.9 V6 12v engines with 190bhp as opposed to 174(?)bhp of the 2.8

The Mk 4 GTi 1.8 T is not very impressive in standard form but I believe these engines can be chipped to produce silly bhp. Still handle like a barge though.

The MK4 150bhp turbo diesel Golf (badged as a GTi i do believe) is apparently more impressive. Loads of torque but like all diesel motors runs out of puff at 3000 revs so not a problem for 99% of hot hatches.

Say no more...sounds like the handling has been modified. The standard car does not handle well at all ( read any review of the car ). Performance is also less than impressive given the size of the engine.

Yeah, that reminds me - I forgot to add that the fastest VW Ive seen on the roads was a 150bhp GT TDi. It didnt race me, but it certainly moved.

Ive seen these GT TDis.. Thought someone just got a GTi Badge and a TDi Badge and put it together! Didnt know it was an actual model. :)

  williams and trophy

the only vw iv lost against so far is the mk1 20v audi quattro turbo 4wd thing

ive raced me mates chipped filter n zorsted vr6 but it was too wet for a proper race

iv stayed with a v6 4motion when 4 up him 2 and could have passed him on the bends if traffic wouldve allowed

KDF

  Audi TT Stronic

can honestly say that I have never bean betean by a VW anything.. raced almost every mark of GTi and played with a vr6 but I didnt really think it was a big deal so I never even posted on here..

Apparently the Golf GTi badge with a red i is a 150 bhp turbo diesel. The TDi with red Di are 130 bhp motors...equally as impressive. The TDis with red i are lame ass.

I used to have a vw corrado G60 before i got my MK1 172,it had quite a bit done to it,stage 4 jabbasport tune up,magnex zorst, jetex induction kit. I would say that my standard(not for long though)172 is quicker and more enjoyable not having to worry if the charger will blow up when your,e thrashing it, plus theres more things you can do to the 172.

To be honest i struggled with a golf gt tdi, thinks in the dry it might have possibly nearly slowly pulled away. Possibly!!

please dont tell ne1

Just remembered that i have lost to a VW, repeatedly, When we were in France that G60 Corrado kept having me, but it was close.

hummm prety good turnout this

yea the golf have got heavy over the years but my mk3 being my first golf and not properley drove the mk1(or any standardish mk1 or 2) i wouldnt no how they have changed.

at the mo my mk3 has 85bhp(dont larf) and i over took a renno 5 turbo so he had a play as well, he was up my arse on straight but pulled back on the bends or was it me not slowing down 4 them(spent nearon £900 on handleing) then the road was clear and he went.

the all red gti on mk4 golf means its annaversary 180bhp petrol or 150 diesel wif few body xtras and stuff

o and i only

Theres quite a few of us are quarter milers on here, well have to arrange something in the next couple of months. As soon as my valvers back on the road Ill be taking on any challenges at the dragstrip!

BTW Ive *never* been overtaken by any VW in my life. But the 66 Beetle I drive is pretty nippy around town I reckon. Tops out at about 75mph though! Thats about par for the course for VWs isnt it? I did drive one of those new Golf GTis with the 1.8 T engine a few weeks ago, it was OK, not that sluggish but then again Id just come out of a 1.4 Fiat Tipo so it wouldnt take much to impress me!
