what do people know about these things? im just about to buy one second hand and there isnt a subscription on the unit.

can it still be used or do i need to subscribe to use the unit or is that just for updates? if its just for updates do i need to update it or could i get away with using it as it is?

if i do need to update it can i use someone elses subscription to update it or does it just register to that one unit?

Upadtes are unit and serial number specific. If the subscription has ran out from the previous owner the only way to update it is to transfer it into your name and pay the subs.

Have you tried one yet? I found that the power lead was too short and kept pulling the unit off it's magnetic bracket. Also had problems getting a signal through the coated / laminated windscreen. Was a complete pain in the crack. When it was working and still on it's bracket it was going off every five seconds!!

Use the long straight lead rather than the curly one this helps.

Also unstick the pad on the bracket and stick it on moved further back so the RA2 to sit more snuggly in the bracket.

The Attentional Attenna is a must aswell IMO.

the unit will work but you wont be able to update it until you change it over to your name

I have the road angle compact - never had a problem with mine, i havent hard wired it in behind the dash as this way i can take it out so theives cant see anything and also use it in any car.

so it should pick up the cameras still but wont be fully up to date.

I just buy my subscription for a year

on my 172 there is an area on the screen which doesnt have the heat reflective coating and mine sits a treat there and works perfect

If you get the extra GPS antenna, phone them and ask for the longer one, which is 5m, otherwise you'll get the 2m one, which is no good. They're the same price.

well all it says is that its searching for a satalight. its a road angel 2, i presume its because its not subscribed so it wont pick anything up as they piick up their data via GPS dont they?

no mate, iirc its all done via a database, the gps is just to see where you are.. i think?

It will work even though its not subscribed, you just wont be able to update it

What car you using it in? Place the unit on the roof to see if it aquires signal, cold start up can take a while initally if it has not been used in a while.

I think they can be blocked if reported stolen.

well i know its not stolen. as its my gf's mate ive got it off.

its in a fiesta st. i havent got the antenna but should be borrowing one off a mate tonight to see if that helps it pick up a signal.

i did try hanging it out my car and on the roof and stuff but it still didnt pick up a signal.

Leave it on the car roof or stuck to the passenger side window for 10 mins while stationary and see if that helps.

got it working at last, plugged my mates laser adaptor from another road angel and that must of gave it a kick up the arse as its now working fine and its wicked

get a tom tom with teh speed camera detector software. much better
