Road legal noise limits for exhuast

  E92 M3 Monte Carlo
i cant understand why anyone would want exhaust on a 172 that was anywhere near the noise limit it would do your head in everyday, and i'd be embarrassed to drive it

Limit is 89db but strangely there is no MOT noise requirements.

Police can only prosecute if they have the correct equipment with them, not by assessment.

BUT and be careful here, they can prosecute you for excessive noise under section 112 of the RTA (con & use) if it is considered by subjective means, that the noise could have been avoided by "the exercise of reasonable care on the part of the driver" and new powers give them the right to seize the vehicle.

Heads they win tails you lose.....

I'm suprised i haven't been pulled in the westfield yet. The last owner was rejected from a track day as it was well over 96dB.

89 is loud.
In Belgium this is the limit:

Aftermarket exhaust maximum is 72dB

BUT

It's not legal to have a louder aftermarket exhaust than the noise of the standard exhaust

Isn't that ridicilous?

I got pulled by the police other day and i had no exhaust, the old one had fell off lol, they never said anything about it and that was very loud. I think i was just lucky
