Rollcages.....Quite a few questions.

Right, as I've currently got buckets and harnesses, a cage is the obvious next step - as I'm doing more and more trackdays too.

I'm looking to do it properly, none of this show cage s**t. It doesn't have to be a proper climbing frame, but still decent enough to do the job (heaven forbid!)

I'd also like to avoid getting a dash dodger if possible.

So what are my options? Where do I get them from?

Another thing, I would like to take out as much of the dash as possible, BUT still keep a hint of practicality, like the heater/blowers. I've seen a lot of stripped out cars on here, so what would you guys advise?

Just to help, this is how the car currently is (doorcards taken out since phototaken)

Also, if people are just going to post things like 'why bother' etc....please just don't.

Another thing, I'll ask this here as I won;t make another thread.

What exactly is involved in taking the AC off/out? I think I need a 172 cup alternator, but what else? Big job?

AC wise you can either move across to cup setup, or use a a PMS aircon delete kit.

Cage wise it depends entirely on your budget, do you want a bolt in pre painted one - or get it made to fit the car, and then paint the entire interior? Do you want it to be permanent or removable in a couple of years?

I would say given your location go visit "caged"

Not the cheapest but quality vs cost etc!

Made to fit the car, permanent.

Thanks for the info Pete.

No problem, Just out of interest are you planning on welding it in yourself? As I am and if you do yours first some detailed pics and a write up would be great to help me and anyone else wanting to do it. Otherwise I'll do one when I get round to fitting mine.

We are in the same boat mate, our will be used almost exclusively for track use but still needs to be road legal for driving there, so still needs demister, wiring for lights/indicators etc.

I very naively took the dash off with the intent of a quick tidy up of the loom and to chop EVERYTHING out apart from the absolute basics that are required to get it through an MOT

It was slightly more complicated than I was expecting with the 400 miles of wires back there, all tangled together :S

I would have a chat with the guys at Caged... that is who produced Neil's cage :)

RE: the aircon removal... you would need a 172 cup alternator set-up (brackets, alternator, belt etc.)

or the Pure Motorsport aircon delete kit (as Tom mentioned ;))

Ok, how much are we talking for AC removal then? (roughly)

I will look into cages soon I hope. Pete - I don't know the first thing about welding, so unfortunately I'll be paying someone to do it :(

It's about £300 for the kit Dan, but you need to remove the crank pully iirc, so i'd cambelt off jobbie. Nice and cheap if you can get Jay to do it for you ;). Why not just go for the cheaper option of the cup setup, or volvo.

Possibly speak to f0xy/Jord and ROB91, I believe they are looking into a full custom roll cage for rob's F4R'd 1.2. From speaking to rob its a fully custom rob and a very decent price, no dash dodging either.

depends what you want, they start from £220 for a half cage upto just over £1K for "the daddy" (plus VAT unfitted)

I went to custom cages when we were looking, very nice and top quality welding etc,but I didn't like there attitude, when I said I'd looked at OMP they just said,"well its your life,do what you like".So we didn't get one.

I have some pictures of it but I don't know how to upload them on to here! I will be at donington tomorrow if your there? Won't be in the car but I have pictures on my phone. I went with the 6point option but added crossed door bars and a harness bar. The full cage they offer has bars here there and everywhere and offers comprehensive protection but at the cost of extra weight. That's why I went 6point.

Just for reference dan, mine is the same omp cage as jay&tony, with a few different bars in different places

I liked modding the OMP in Jay and Tonys car, and adding bits wasn't hard. Infact I think i Prefered adding the bits like the harness Bars where we decided they needed to go, rather than having them already in place
