Roofracks + boxes

Well, to cut a long story short, on going to the IOW last year with three people and 3 big bags of tents/food/clothing/alcohol it was a squeeze to say the least in the little 172.

This year Im intending on buying some thule roof bars and a roofbox from Halfrauds but unsure what to get due to complete lack of knowledge.

Would love some input, ideally looking for something which could hold a couple of full sports bags and possibly some space for a crate or two (of booze) without oversizing the roof and still maintaining function of the opening boot.

things hav changed in the last year or so since i worked there, but will take a look, first bit of advice thoe, as useually the case halfords is a cheaper option for both bars and box, deff go for a halfords box, theyre made in the same factory as thule, so i was told by our local thule rep.

as for bars i believe they were made by paddy hopkirk, if ur gunna use em once and halfords does a set for a 172 get em, but im not sure if they do, if your useing em alot spend the extra and go for thule, not a great deal off difference but parts last longer feel stronger and are easyier to buy spares for.

as for box size i wouldnt go over 300L, a good £99.99 250l thing from there should do but u may have to remove the aireal, but im not sure if there is a 3 door kit for clios

LOL, Fletch, one of my first ideas was to buy a jetta or golf estate but im 19 and getting insurance on another car is just not feasible! (And my best mate has a 107 and my other best mate has a 1.2 dynamique )

Thanks 24 mate. I have a beesting aerial from a C2 but I get no reception so it wouldnt worry me anyway! I think it'd be a once a year (unless I like the look of it) but I did see that Halfords box for £99.99

^ awsome any luck on the bars? im not sure if they have released a foot pack that connects to the roof because there are strips towards the rear roof of clios but i have never taken them off, or is you have to get a short roof adaptor, let me know either way, i was the travel specialist when i worked for halfords and i dont even know lol

Nah mate! Been working too much! Haven't had the chance! Got some time off near end of Jan for my birthday so will have a look then!

renault bars and box is good, mines the paintible 1. 300 version got it for 160. normal version is cheaper

Bars are good Neil! That rack + bike is sooo fookin high though!

Was looking to get the top half colour Monaco at some point too actually despite being a once annual thing!

Will have to keep an eye on eBay.
