Rotary Polisher

  Shed.
Right can you give me a link and name to the following please, preferably ones you own or have used.

1. A rotary polisher (preferably one which doesnt cost the earth and also has decent speed settings, i dont mind going into a well known shop and buying one either.)

2. Which backing plate and pads (foam only please) should i get (preferably from Cleanyourcar.co.uk)

Isn't a rotary abit hardcore for a beginner? I'd recommend the Megs one, unless you can find a really cheap secondhand pc its hardly worth messing about with the transformer.

orbital polisher is what you want. I'm very tempted by the Megs one.

Just borrow me and Matts pc you tart! Its sat in the garage not getting any use at all, just provide your own pads and polishes, seriously theres no point in spending £150+ of your wages on one for a couple of weekends a years use when mines doing nothing.

  Punto/Clio GTT
i got mine from machine mart (£35). then i just had to buy (steal) a couple of mop heads on top. Hard one and soft one.

Doh !!!

Do not care about risks etc etc i am using my dad's car as a guineapig.

An orbital polisher will burn straight through thin car paint in no time in the wrong hands. a good orbital will produce great results with much less risk.

i'll take you up on that in the summer mate... especially now my old man's bought a flame red Laguna... swirl city!

No worries it would be good to see it get some use, flame will come up lovely and Renault paint seems very easy to correct in my limited experience.

If your serious, ill take you up on that offer :)

It was aimed at fUbAr, as he lives round the corner from me in sunny Dorset. You would be welcome to borrow it but to be honest it be cheaper to buy one than post that transformer!

To be fair if you find a thin patch with a PC you are as likely to go through the paint with it aswell.

It is really hard to burn paint with a Rotary you have to really try !

The art is getting a perfect finish with one.

and just to add, ive never seen anyone burn through paint in the middle of panels with a rotary.

only burn throughs ive seen have been on edges of doors, tops of bumpers etc

Why get lime lite and #7 - I would see how you go with one or the other.

#7 I use by hand anyway.

I also prefer Intensive Polish to #83.

Yeah renault paint is so easy to correct but then again it scratches so easily aswell!

I'm sure me or alex can give you a few pointers for a little bit of man love. Although its fairly straightforward

I would happily use a rotary I think this paint burning is just an internet myth!

This is my rotary polisher, its a great lightweight machine, with softstart and electronic speed control.

£160 omg. I think ill stick with the £35 one, thats got soft start and has some good vairable speeds. DW seem to think its quite a good bit of kit.

What would you go for then ? Lime prime lite or #7

Don't really use either that much these days - Swissvax Cleaner Fluid !

Easier to use than the #7

I don't have the Lime Lite as I have not used up my prime yet. The CF leaves a better finish though.

ok, ill grab some cleanerflud then.

Will i need a towel, and ill get an applicator for the cleaner fluid ?, the cleaner towel as its called.....

Can you tell me how it works and how i use it please, including when i should use it , thanks.

  106 GTi
I apply it with a foam hand pad, and remove with a microfiber same as any other product.

It is a pre wax cleanser, just use it when you want to clean the paint before waxing.

Once every 3-4 months for me.

I would guess it will remove some if not all of anything under it. Not sure how strong the cleaners in the standard version are.

Decided to use my girlfriends Ford KA. Obviously i wont be able to deliberately burn through but she doesnt give two s***s about it.

It does get washed........With a sponge and bucket and also gets taken through the carwash. It is heavily swirled and there is rust bubbling around the fuel cap and at the bottom of one of the doors.

Besides the swirling ive got a scratch mark to play with which looks like a keymark, and a few other scuffs and what not.
