Rotor arm and plugs

Hey all

Recently replace the HT leads and dizzy cap on my clio and things seem to run a little smoother.

I didnt bother with the spark plugs or rotor arm as they all look in pretty good condition. I was wondering if these could be sapping any of the engine power as the plugs are a couple of years old, and i think the rotor arm is the original. I decided not to change them at the time, as they looked healthy, could they still be a bit naffed?

Thanks

PS anyone know how hard it is to get the rotor arm off on a phase I RT?

I changed all of the above on mine and to be honest I didnt notice that much difference. The rotor arm Im sure just pulls off. Buy a new one about a fiver and youll see how it goes on. Im 99% certain it just pulls off.

Chris.

the prob is the rotor arm if its the original will be stuck solid on the shaft, you will need to break it off.

And these things shoudl be changed annually.

if you did all that work you shouldnt skimp on the plugs and rotor arm...if plugs are 2 years old well....you should change them ASAP before they freeze in the block.

change all of the above every 6000 miles, plugs may look ok but still be worn, distributor cap will not work as well with a worn rotor arm.

ok gonna get some plugs tomo, that will be that sorted.

As for the rotor arm, Chris_H what do you mean il have to brake it off? will it be attached or just stuck in place?

Also, is the rotor arm a/v from Halfords? Unlike the dizzy cap which they sell as it is the wrong one?

Thanks all

Dazz

the rotor arm is a push fit. However if its not changed every tyear or so the metal spring clip inside it rusts solid to the shaft so if it wont slide off you need to break it off with pliers.

This is true of duccelier distributors.

The Magneti marreli dizzys are an arse as bits are hard to get. You can get the ducellier gear in halfords no bother but the marreli stuff is awkward, sometimns they have it sometimes they dont.

just got the rotor arm from halfords, works fine :) other one just pulled off. Cleaned the rod up before fitting the new one. Also got a set of NGK spark plugs, was very happy as the lot only cost me £10.50 :)

All running smooth :)

THanks all
