...How many motorway miles could I get out of a full tank 1.2 05 clio & how much does a full tank cost? :clown:

Looking to buy one and am looking for a nice looking, good mpg car :)

Appreciate any help

Has

  RS 182 - Black Gold
When i had my 2001 1.2 16v i did a lot of trips between London and Coventry.

Full tank, depending how low i left it £40-45

i used to get with motorway miles about 390-420 depending how i drove it lol.

Pretty nippy lil car and comfortable on the motorway :)

From what people say on here the 1.2s vary in MPG a lot

Drive it smoothly and you may get just over 40MPG i spose

  Clive the Clio no. 2
its a 55 litre tank.

so from empty to full is around £60.00

and it will do around 43-45 mpg if you stick at 65-70mph.

Diesel would probably be much better tbh

Thats an intresting point mate, although bear this in mind at the moment petrol in glasgow as of an average £1.07 and diesel is £1.17, now obviously thats 10p of a diffrerence of every fill up.

I cant work it out in my head but i reckon you would need to be doing 13-16k miles a year to "make the money back" on it for paying the diffrence of diesel...

That said whatever route you go down we are all still fucked of the arse pirates that are the government!

I get 40 - 45mpg gunning it down country lanes. I get 50mpg around town. I get 60mpg on a run at 70mph. If I drive at 60mph I can get nearly 80mpg. Think the extra cost of fuel is made up in just one tank ;)

Legendry guys. Has to be better than my saxo VTR

Thanks for the help.

Hi by the way, new around here

Pic of car I'm getting...

On a 200mph trip up the M6 my clio does about 56mpg, thats just a constant speed going upto 80 every now and again to overtake and then back to 70 again to cruise.

Mine seems really good on fuel compared to others but i don't drive like an idiot!

I got nearly 400 miles out of my Trophy on mainly motorways so i would of thought a 1.2 would get alot more than that.

i disagree to be honest mate. I find that when joining motorways especially on uphill sliproads the 1.2 16v struggles to get up to speed quickly and comfortably.

Yesterday i went to join a roundabout rolling slowly at around 10-15 mph in 2nd i put my foot to the floor and nothing happened it just bogged down and i had to change my mind and break pretty sharply because i may not have made it, bearing in mine the car was about 60 meters away ( big motorway/dual carraigeway roundabout) probly going about 30 this gave me 5 seconds but the car wouldnt have it.

but for just going around town they are good, nice looking cars, comfortable for short journeys, good spec for a low price, if this is what you are after you can't go wrong.

Also on mainly town driving i'm getting 40-43 mpg. On a run i can see 50.

What do you expect from 1149cc in second gear at 10mph? It's not a torque monster, you need to be in the right gear all the time. Teaches you a sh*tload about driving if you ask me. You can't be sloppy with it.

Really thinking about asking if we can have a new section to the forums called "Economy". This has to be the 6th thread in the last month asking the exact same question... :dapprove:

The newer ones are always slower, get some miles on it. Has's was an early one like mine 2001ish. Providing you were in the right gear I never had any problems, mine was quite nippy when I sold it, my mate has since bought a newer one under 15k miles, I doubt it would even wheel spin, I thought there was 2 inches of carpet under the accelerator!

its got 34000 on it lol, i could ram it in 1st at 10mph tho it only likes it when stoped.

I can average 43 mpg combined if I drive economically, changing gear at low revs, reading the road and easing off the accelerator rather than braking etc.

Would have thought a 1.2 should easily be capable of this. I once made the 286 mile trip from where I currently live to Newcastle, and due to traffic conditions I averaged 48.6mpg.

Err a diesel will do about 50% better mpg so when you spend £100 on fuel a diesel usualy need only £73 (tyhats including for a 10% or so higher costs) I recon depends on your driving mpg that a diesel costs about 9p a mile in fuel a petrol about 12p so over even 10k the diesel has saved you £300 and is worth more plus if your looking at the 1.5 dci road tax is £30 a year vs what £90 for the 1.2's

If fuel prices go up another 20% as they recon they will then you'll be saving even more vs a petrol.

O and tunning the dcis's is cheaper.

Not realy mpg wise there often not that far apart.
