Russian Submarine: U-475 Foxtrot B-39 Pics-->> (Pic heavy)

  2004 1.5 DCi 80 Dyna
Located off the shore in Rochester, this place is amazing, it looks a sorry state outside, but is like a time capsule inside! The owner allowed us on for a couple of hours to get some pictures.

The Submarine was nicknamed the 'Black Widow'. When fully loaded it housed 77 crew and 22 torpedos including 2 low yield nuclear warheads.

It is listing badly due to holes in the bodywork.

Active in the Russian Baltic Fleet until April 1, 1994, She had 27 years in service.

In some of the images, you will see the image is wonky, this is actually looking at the Sub level!! When I stand in the images, I am standing up straight!

It used to house the batteries, which meant it could run silent incase the enemy was close by. It was used more recently (when level) as a bar and function room for parties.

Hi mate, I'm into a bit of UE myself. And I've also been in this sub. Are you on 28dl?. Must be a year or two now I done it. How was the journey over to the sub from the shore? Ours was interesting. lol!. Also the entrance at the top of the sub was absolutly infested with kamakazee pigeons!.

Im banned from 28days (long story).

This was totally above board, the owner ferried us across from the pier below the castle.

All you need to do is ask, no need to risk life and limb (and camera) by using a dinghy. Anyway, all the hatches are now sealed from the inside so going without permission is no longer possible.

Thats good then. 28dl did get a bit funny after it shut down and re-opened. Nice pics anyway. Mine are too dark, didnt have the lighting that you had.

Wow! I actually have a thing for subs - although I would never ever want to actually be in one when it went under water - strange really but thats how I roll ;)

I know this thread is a bit old but I came across the photo on here and a few others on another forum when I was looking into shooting a short film on the Black Widow and wanted to say thanks for posting them. I also thought I'd revisit the forum and post a link to my film when it was done. So for those of you interested in another tour of the sub a link to my short is below.

Great pics! Really interesting! Russians built good boats but were never vey talented when it came to crew! They built the typhoon class which had multiple pressure hulls made from titantium iirc! They have certainly changed from then lol!

And for the battery Q at the beginning, when a diesel/elec SM runs along the surface or PD it runs on diesels charging the batteries. Then when submerged it runs on electricity alone from the batteries, however this doesnt allow a great length of time submerged. Along came nuclear prop, hello 4 months underwater.
