Sachs Damper Refurb

  Megane r26
Well I've had my trophy a few months, just whipped off the sachs for winter an dropped so me 182 cup dampers on. Now over the winter the trophy is going to have some tlc (new balljoints, poly bushes an some powder coating). Now I'm thinking of having the sachs refurbed/serviced, now I see alot of folk have been using bg but I also notice that some bg units have been failing not long after? Has anyone used any one apart from BG?

Cheers

I used cornering force in Harrogate.

Good guys there, seem to know their stuff. They are a fair bit cheaper (prices on their website) but the turn around isn't as quick as BGs, not that it matters if you are doing it over winter and have spare suspension.

Jamie/Jesus is currently using Cornering Force, they are cheaper but take longer. If you require any specific SACHS parts they have to be provided from BG anyway.

I was one of those that had a set rebuild, and within 4k/6months a damper had failed. This was down to a batch of faulty gas seals that cracked. BG rebuild both again FOC, even though only one had failed. BG are expensive however their turnaround is brilliant and customer service is also sound.

...Beaten too it! ha

Just read his thread an noticed he's using cornering force in harrogate, I weren't sure if bg were the only folk able to obtain the parts/spares

CF can get generic seals etc, if there are any SACHS specific parts they need IE Piston Rods, CF will have to go to BG for them.

Yep, cornering force and BG have a good relationship according to Simon there. They work on a lot of projects together, not just the T dampers :)

My BG refurb failed after 10k miles/just over a year. They offered to rebuild them at a reduced cost, but it was still cheaper to go to cornering force.

Cool thats cleared up a few bits for me then, what sort of warrenty do bg offer an have you had any problems since jon?

None. Because its a rebuild on a 'used' item, they cannot gaurantee it. So when my dampers went for the second time I was a bit pissed off. However when I spoke to Ben at BG, they insisted on sending them back for inspection and they would find out why it had happened. As a result, he found the fault seal and said as a gesture of good will that they would re-do them FOC. It was not their fault, it was down to SACHS supplying a faulty batch. So I guess he could of charged me (and others) again, but didn't.

There has only been 2 or 3 cases of broken seals though.

They're easy to de-pin yourself, or I'm sure anyone could do it for you. They have currently had mine for around a month but that is because he is still waiting on some seals (and also I said there was no rush when I left them with him!). Simon is a top guy though and you can tell he's genuinely enthusiastic about his line of work. I'll report back once I've got them back but from what I've heard a lot of people would recommend him :)

Trophy owners seem to forget that their dampers are basically race dampers, they will not last forever! Even after refurb they could last 3 years, the could last 3 months

Exacterly.

Baseline quality = forever = forever
£maintenance = incidental
Baller = buy brand new*

Had a crack at painting a few bits

I understand there race dampers, I haven't had the car long an the dampers were inspected by a company Sheffield last year when the old owner had it. There's no sign of leaking, I just want them refurbed. I would by new but after speaking to t21 ads a few months ago when I was picking some bits up an he said how they have gone from just over 500 a piece to 1400 a piece an with just buying a new pad I think the misses would have something to say about spending not far of 3k on dampers, tbh i'd probably be buried under the patio
