Safe Mode

Driving along last night, came to a junction, stopped (as you do). Wen to pull away & it was gutless, wouldnt rev & when it did it took an eternity to get to 3000rpm in 1st gear, now i no its only a 1.2 but still it was slower than a week in the nick!! Top speed was about 30mph!!! There was a light came on on the dashboard (kinda squiggly one in the centre below the low level fuel warning light). Checked the manual & its got something to do with either water in the fuel or an electrical fault in the system!! well the car just came out of the local renault garage after being in for cutting out at junctions, they claim to have cleaned the connections to the computer, could this be where the water/electrical fault is at!?!?!?!?!?! Another light came on at the bottom right of the dashboard & it was something to do with toxic fumes. Anyone else had this trouble & what do you suggest I do?? Not keen on taking it back to the same renault garage as ive had nothing but agro everytime the car goes in for something, i mean 4 times to fix a water leak at 2 weeks old, twice to fix the headlights that decide to fail on the darkest & foggyst night possible at 6 month old & 6 times to fix a screenwash pump at just under a year old!!



Oh & it did it again this morning, topped it up to the neck last night thinkin it could be sh*tty fuel & it ran fine again but this morning when it got back down to half a tank again it started its safe mode crap!!

i had this when i first got me car turned out it was the coil pack ....basically what was happening was when i put the foot down the car wouldnt move it kinda shuddered then after about 3-4 seconds it started to pick up...

my toxic light came on after a while think its to do with the fact that the coil is not working which in turn means that the spark plugs are not firing and the fuel is not being burnt.

took two attempts for them to fix it with me first the coil then they had to change the spark plugs too....hope this helps

cheers bud, renaultll get it in neck in morning when i get it to them, had nowt but bloody hassle wi this car, needless to say I wont be buying another one, think ill have me a fabia vRS!



be a warranty job anyway i would hope!!

took it to renault yesterday & tehy say they cannot find anything wrong with it & that the computer doesnt have anything stored on it to say there was a problem, they did however clean out the connections to the computer (which they were meant to have done on friday!!!!!). Hasnt done it since tuesday morning so hopefully its sorted itself out!!

The connections for the injection computer get rubbed by the metal cage thing that surrounds it causing problems

I had a coil pack replaced on my 172 it was showing the same faults as yours is producing also i rang the aa when the toxic fume light came on and they plugged the computer in and gave me a print out of the error codes so when you take it into renault they will not fob you off has they have the problem in front of them and should be able to fix the problem a lot quicker it worked for me took the car in and it was fixed 2 hours later.Touch wood no more problems ..good luck.

did it again last night but knocked it off then back on & it was fine so im gona let it slide for now, til it does it again!!! had the aa out to it when it wouldnt start & they tried plugging comp in & couldnt get it to connec, something about renault not giving them the software or something!!
