Samsung Kies help

Wondering if anyone can help me, I'm trying to upgrade my galaxy ace using kies but as soon as kies starts uploading the firmware it disconnects the phone. It's on version 2.2.1, think the new one is 2.3.5

I took it back to the shop today for them to try to upgrade it but even they failed, they said it was probably to do with the anti virus program - Lookout, but I've uninstalled that and it still won't stay connected.

I've searched the net for answers and I've tried the following

Removed the SD card
Removed the SIM card
Removed both at the same time

I've even hard resetted it, but it still disconnects everytime it starts to upload

I've uninstalled and reinstalled kies, rebooted my computer, the f**king lot.

I've got the latest version of kies and all the drivers are installed.

The phone is not rooted as I don't trust myself to do it.

So, has anyone got any ideas coz I've run out.

I've managed to upgrade it using odin

Kies is a b**ch to get working it either will or wont lol as long as odin is not running. So i jus use odin but im on unofficial updates and kies will never work. Gonna try and update to ICS once a stable version has come out
