Sat nav Tom tom

TomTom's database is spot on for the cameras.

also, the *10 series of tomtom's (new ones) all come with the safety camera system installed out of the box. It works brilliantly.

the mount is quite poor yes... im having to exchange my mount at work due to the unit becomming disconnected and shutting off due to the batterys running out. It seems the contacts are poor because if you push it, the power light comes back on.

James, yes it bleeps. you can adjust how early it makes its noises too.

the only thing letting it down is the connection to the mount in the car.

Bought 1 saturday from Halfords.

They work and are well worth the effort. I've got a FF182, thought the windscreen would be a problem. But it wasn't. Speed camera data comes already loaded, but when I subscribed to the updates, it made a lot of adjustments.

They're spot on......good purchase......:approve:

No they're not free from TomTom website. But there is a man on here who can email you a update that I think works with TomTom Satnavs. I'll PM you that name (there was a bit of a who har when he posted it up for everyone last time).

Yes it does need to be mounted on the windscreen to charge it. But it is battery power as well. I think the book quotes 4hours from a full battery. I'm not sure if you can get another mount, but the cig charger goes through the mount.

PM me if you have any questions.

Are the 710's available yet?

No one seems to stock them yet?

Tyson.

Halfords have s**t loads in stock, on all models. but they're not displaying the *10 models until the get rid of the others.

word of warning to all people

the windscreen mount on the new *10 range of tomtom's is s**t.

it bounces around so much that the device looses connection and restarts on its own accord.

i contacted tomtom today and they are reproducing the mounts, which is why you wont find any stock anywhere. If you have one of the defective mounts then tomtom will swap it over FOC with a new mount.

If you wait another few weeks then the new stocks will be available to buy in the shops with the modified mount.

You will also need to upgrade the firmware on your tomtom, as the software on it when you buy it will take an age to lock onto the satellites. The new firmware takes about 30 seconds.

hope that helps. We've had all of the devices we've sold at work returned for the above reason. TomTom are aware and have reproduced the mount :)

Yeah, let us know how you get on. Post the pics up of what it looks like.

will do :)

apparently they've:

"tweaked it by tightening some bits and loosened other bits, and redesigned the locking pins".

UPDATE
The new mount arrived today, a bit later than expected but thats UPS's fault not TomTom's.

First impressions before i fitted it were that it didnt look any different, however when i moved the arm it felt a lot stiffer than the old mount.

When i fitted it into the car, the TomTom device fitted straight on, none of the faffing about with 2 hands trying to clip it in. Green light came on straight away showing it had power. I can now grab the device and shake it about in the mount and the power doesnt cut out.

It also removes from the mount much easier, again with just 1 hand needed.

all in all, TomTom have fixed the problem and its now a great little unit. I have an extra antenna attached to it, meaing i get full signal all of the time.

Very happy with the updated mount :approve:

Looked into this a bit more now. Halfords were the first to get the new mounts in. So luckily for me, when I bought mine it came with the new mount. Also the firmware has been updated. Its on Version 6 now. If you have a *10 TT with a version 5.* then you have the old mount.

Camera Database is pretty pump. PocketGPSWorld database is better, and cheaper. £2 per download, rather than TT subscription.

Yournav.com isn't bad for research and how-to's.

Be careful when putting on POI's. I downloaded a few now, recently tried to put on Red Light District and Motorway Service Stations (Yes I know, perv, thought it look cool, and no the Services St wasn't for doggin) and it corrupted the memory card. luckily for me a backup the card. When I called the help line they basically told me to reformat it and restore the back up. Bit worried at the time because I know someone else who done something pretty similar and had to buy another card. £60 odd quid (not funny after buying a TT).

Anyway, hope that helps.

if we buy a tom tom from pc world and find it still has old mount what u suggest we do fuber?? or you mthing they will be updated

TomTom will be shipping the new mounts out in the new stock from now on.

if you find you have a defective mount, simply do what i did... phone tomtom for a replacement. You could take it back for a swap, but chances are if you had a defective mount in the first one, the second one will be from the same batch.

if your worried, wait a few more weeks to gaurantee getting new stock. Personally, i would just buy one and see... and send the mount for replacing if its defective.

Mine took around a week to get swapped over with tomtom :)
