Satellite Navigation

  S2000
What is the minimum I would be looking at having to spend on a navigation unit to get something half decent?

Just wondering as my mum needs something to get my dad for christmas and I know he likes the idea of getting satellite navigation. Ideally it would just be one of the stand alone units.

What would you all recommend?

Thanks.

im not totally clued up but the tom tom ones are supposed to be good, ive got a pioneer one, but its built into the head unit.. u got a local halfords?

The tomtom one does not have an sd slot, which means you cannot put stuff like the european maps onto it. It also means that your stuck with the 32mb onboard memory. So once you use that up thats it. So if you want to put the speed camera locations and keep it updated your have to manage the onboard memory closely to keep inside the 32mb limit. The one is slimmer than the go, other than that they do the same thing.

the tomtom one does have an sd slot and has a 128mb sd card included included,it will get a signal and keep it even indoors as it using the newest chip ,you can put euro maps on it.i also have the speed cameras on mine

i had a navman before and that struggled outdoors to get a signal,i would recommend the TT one all day long to anyone ,a few others on here have it as well and they are well pleased as well

does everthing the 300 does, think they are replacing the 300/500/700 with TT one/two/three

I bought a sat nav unit for my dad (Mum didnt have a clue) Anyway I went for the Garmin i3 Street pilot cost £160 from Argos. It is superb for the money and is probably easier to use than the tomtom as it has less features - However has all the features you would want to use (Tomtom has congestion and traffic bits and bobs) Anyway it's just the job as my dad would prefer something easy to use and works straight out the box.

I even put his own welcome screen on so everytime he powers it up a personal message and pictures appears for a few seconds.

Tomtom is touch screen, Garmin roller ball but is dead easy to use and tiny.

PS wish the Dons were no 1 ;)
