Scandinavian Flick

  ?
Scandinavian Flick

This technique is only possible using a vehicle NOT equipped with ABS brakes and preferably with a manual transmission. It is best performed on a slippery surface such as gravel or snow.
The general purpose of a Scandinavian Flick is to allow the vehicle to turn through very sharp corners without dropping off a great deal of speed.
NOTE : This technique requires the largest combination of sheer stupidity and balls our team can imagine. If you can master it, we take our hats off to you. It's not so much the skill involved, or though that is part of it, it's more the fact that if it goes wrong it's likely to go wrong big time. This is definitely a try at your own risk procedure.
The basic procedure for performing a Scandinavian Flick is to put your car into a four wheel drift with the nose of the car pointing in the opposite direction to the corner you wish to take. While continuing the slide select a new (usually lower gear) and turn the wheel in the opposite direction (usually full lock). At the point when you decide you need to turn, release the brakes to stop the slide, the back-end of the car should slingshot around and you should be pointing in the direction you want to travel, you then need to apply suitable amounts of clutch and throttle to regain traction and take off at speed in your new direction.
The procedure can be broken down into the following steps :
  1. Using the steering wheel flick the nose of the car in the opposite direction to the corner.
  2. Stand on the brakes hard enough to lock up all four wheels. Don't forget to clutch in or else the engine will likely stall.
  3. Stay on the brakes to continue the slide, select a new gear and turn the wheel full lock in the opposite direction.
  4. When you're ready to turn release the brakes, the car should pivot around and face in the new direction of travel.
  5. Apply the clutch and accelerator to regain traction and take off in a straight line using the new direction the car is pointed in.
A few points of note :
  1. If you are not committed enough (hesitate) when you first start to brake you will likely understeer straight off the road. Alternatively the front wheels may lock up first and the car will return to the original direction of travel.
  2. Its important to remember to push in the clutch when starting the slide, otherwise the engine will stall and you're likely going to need a new car.
  3. Its entirely up to you to decide when to release the brakes to start the turn.
  4. Success is also entirely dependant on your ability to regain control of the car after the turn.
  5. If you can manage this not only will it feel great, it should improve your times, and make you look like a hero. If you get it wrong, well, its likely to be expensive and/or painful.
Im bored, where can i try this?

Public roads are not an option.

i have to disagree with a few of those there mate, flicking when on full lock is a no no,the more steering movement u put in the more speed u scrub off,u just need to use enough streering imput to unsettle the weight balance of the car,and never EVER depress the clutch,u will loose all throttle control, and not be able to use any throttle to get out the flick

and also u dont need to lock the wheels either

lol il try to find somethin better for ya mate

most of its fairly accurate but i think thats written by someonw who has never done any type of loose motorsport, where its maionly used

Well erm, trying to do something like this put me through a fence ... i think the combination of only having driven a few hours and the hesitation to BRAKE got me in that mess! oh well, live and learn. no more country lanes!

Just wondering how you actually pull it off, also, any chance of tipping over etc?

this is a basic:

Now we are assuming that your automobile is travelling around 30 miles an hour, and you come upon a 90 degree sweeping left turn in the road. Your options to take this turn quickly are: bootlegger turn, or Scandinavain flick. Today we will try the scandinavian flick.
Regulate your speed, with your car in the middle of the road.
As the road starts to turn, turn the wheel to the right. Yes, right.
Now that the vehicle is pitching forward, and veering to the right, lift off the brakes and steer to the left. The vehicles rear wheels should be unloaded by the braking, and with the left turn input should start to slide. DON'T PANIC
Smooth is of the essence here. Counter steer(into the turn), and apply the throttle. If done right, it should look like a bootlegger turn, but will be accomplished without utulizing the handbrake.
I assume no responsibility for any damages you may incur to your vehicle if you try this.

So,

Approach turn
Brake
turn opposite direction
turn back to right direction sharply + come off brake
turn into drift/skid and stay on throttle.

yes?

i see no need to do this on the road btw mate, never enough room for it to do u any good and never safe enough

D

dick

what?

u cant drift with FWD, its gotta be just ragging the handbrake?

  RB 182 Cup
you can if you go into a supermarket carpark and put trays under the rear wheels and leave the hand brake on :D can do donuts and drive the whole car park at walking speed if yuo like lmao

il find the link off the net for ya mate, some jap drifters use fwd, drifting is driving a car sideways and maintaining that, which u can do with fwd by use of the handbrake and throttle and a bucket load of skill lol

I thought the whole purpose of the Scandinavian flick was to exaggerate weight transfer/load onto the outside wheels so as to maximise grip through a corner?

Isn't all this drifty slidey stuff just a by-product of that?

  182cup & 172 racecar
There are two uses for this
1.it helps to slow the car down by offering four wheels too the gravel,ie four different tracks
2.when the car starts to swing it can then be controlled on the throttle throught the bend,
Dont forget there never used to be pace notes, even marked maps were not allowed so this also helped seeing the severity of the bend before getting back on the throttle

that wasnt too bad but he just slid on,should have been straight on the throttle lol, then again that is alot of weight to be throwing around.....

  Peddled device
I've done this loads of times...had a few offs as well.Last time was on thursday night out in the country.First time l clipped a kerb and put a dent in the front wing of my RS.Second time was fine...flew through the corner.
