Scary Pedal thing!

Els

  Inferno 182 Cup
On the way to work this morning, flying up the dual carage way, put my foot flat to the floor and the pedal clicked and stuck down, SHAT me up big style as there was a lot of cars on the road and didnt want to be flyind down the road with no control over my car.

Any idea what this is? is it ment to do this? and how do you stop it from happening? and if it happens how do you get it to stop?

Please let me know!

So its definitely not catching on the mat ? I had this once years ago with my clutch pedal , it kept sticking down and i had to keep flicking it up with my foot , lol .

If not a trip back to Renault me thinks .

At full travel on the accelerator pedal there is a defined click that can be used to overide the cruise control or speed limiter. It shouldn't stick down though! As said above it's more than likely the mat causing it to stick - check it as it's happened to me.

Oi will check again with me mats tonight, couse it really shat me up, couse you hear horror storries of peoples pedals getting stuck down and then plowing in to cars or walls etc did NOT want that.

This 'click' on the throttle, I have it on my 172 (though no cruise control), I thought it was faulty, obviously not. Does this mean to achieve full throttle, you need to 'click' the throttle, or is it full just before the click?

I have only had it 'click' twice, and once was when I overtook, and floored it to ensure I got past asap, and the other time just random having fun driving. I take it there is no need to have the pedal do this unless you have cc?

It definitely sounds dodgy , never heard of it being a problem on a clio before though . A remember seeing that bloke in a beemer last year , his accelerator stuck on and he ended up crashing into a roundabout at 120mph though lol

This sort of thing once happened to a lorry driver... he went 10 miles at 56 miles and hour and police had to escort him and try and move other traffic out of the way. No one was hurt and he was able to crash it "Safely" into an embankment.

Later he was found to have been telling porkies just to get attention.

Oh right my apologies. Sorry guys.

I thought you were saying I was lying to get attention :S.

Makes a bit more sense now.

Full throttle is before the click. I wouldn't have thought it could be a linkage issue on a 182 - the throttle's by wire, no cable involved. The mat does sit very close to the end of the pedal, they can also stop you getting full travel.

I have had similar on a mini. The cable frayed and jammed inside the sheathing, causing it to level out at 80mph. I had to switch off the ignition every time i needed to stop, as I was unable to get it free.

So check cable :) Only very cheap to buy :)

Was going to say it could be the cable frayed then realised there's no cable!

On another note if it happens again and wont come unstuck. Don't panick mate, stick the clutch in and brake slowly and safely. Engine will be bouncing off the limiter but at least you'll be able to slow down and be safe!

Sorry but if that story about the lorry driver is true, why didn't he just put the clutch down and switch off the ignition?

My brake pedal got stuck on my mat once, felt like a right dick sat at a green light with every one behind honking their horns, still better than flying in to back of someone hope you get it sorted.

JACKO CUP 172!

Yeah I don't get why the lorry driver didn't just depress the clutch. I think he was saying he couldn't turn off ignition because he would lose his steering. Also could he not just have braked gently at least to reduce speed a little?

my mat is no where near the pedal, i have standard RS mats.

Same thing happened to me this morning. There are very few cases of this reported here. I have RS mats and pretty sure (90%) that it didnt catch on them. It clicked when pressing the pedal to the floor (as it goes through the cruise switch) and then just stuck there. I had to flick it back with my foot.

Anyone else had any problems like this. It is the first and only time this has happened to my 182.

My 172 clicks also, there is a little round plastic piece stuck to the floor which the pedal touches if you push it right down hard after it clicks. Check the plasic isnt worn or has a lip on it as the pedal might be sticking behind the lip if that makes sense when your pushing it right to the floor.

Sorry but if that story about the lorry driver is true, why didn't he just put the clutch down and switch off the ignition?

because he took the fuse out of the limiter on his truck so it could go faster than 56mph then got caught and blamed the truck for doing it in an attempt to save his licence.
