Scenic gear box problem

My wifes 2000 Automatic Scenic (Monaco) has had the little light come up which in the manual tells us to report it to Renualt (gear box fault).

Anyone out there know what it could be in terms of the fault and cost to sort? Would you go independant or Renualt?

Independant but find a good one.

The fault should be logged in the ECU so a diagnostic computer can read the code might be as simple as a sensor gone bad.

I should add I can feel the fault in so much as when starting from stationary it has very little umph and when moving it "thuds"

that will be the gear selection valve solenoids, renault only supply a complete pack for around 500 quid, I can change them individualy.
