what setup you going for in terms of speakers/amps/subs etc mate...? Ive got 8 speakers (including tweeters), 2 amps and no sub running from a Sony HU.

was thinking about just replacing the speakers for sommet better, no sub tho,
prolly an amp, just to get the crisp sound.
Dont wanna replace the head unit tho, as i want it discrete!

well here's my setup...
Sony HU with CD changer attached. The front tweeters and door speakers are uprated and fed direct from the HU speaker outputs. I have the two pre-outs feeding two amps attached to my rear bench. The speakers in the rear door cards are again uprated and fed from the first (small) amp. On the rear parcel shelf I have a set of Sony 6x9's mounted, fed from the second (small) amp. The amps are 200 and 250w.
I am pretty happy with the sound and it's all fairly discreet as the rear shelf speakers are even hidden. I wanted the install for sound quality rather than show/looks etc. I didn't opt for a sub purely because I need my boot space with my job.

8 speakers is a rediculous amount.

Ideal Scenerio for adecent sounding SQ Based System

1 Set Of Comps, 1x 10" or 12" Sub and a 4 Channel amp.

However you have stated you dont want a sub, so id look at a decent set of componants, I doub you want to be modifing your door cards, So its goign tohave to be 5.25" Door Speakers. With some setting up on the amplifier, you should still get a lil mid bass.

As for an amp, a 2 channel will be fine, if my comps where the only speakers in my car id go fora 4 channel and bridge it.

However, does the stock Head unit have pre outs???

No pre outs on a stock unit so line (aka low) level input amp needed, it takes its signal from speaker wires as opposed to rca's.

was justing stating that 8 speakers is unecessary, where are they all placed.

(i bet 2 of them are shelf mounted 6x9s, and a pair of Co-Axials in the rear quarters)

so the most important speakers in your system are running of a head unit, whilst unecessary speakers are amped

right.......

it was all professionally installed so are you saying that the company don't know s**t about what they're doing?? :S I am baffled as to why the two front speakers which are down at foot level are the most 'important' ones in a car...
Anyhow, I'm happy! :)

im baffled that a professional company did that, and If this is the case, yes i am saying they dont know s**t. I take it they recomended the equipment too?

Look at it this way, If you go to a Rock Concert, They are on stage with all their amps and speakers, do you ;

A) Face Them, And have the sound coming towards you, or
B) Turn your back on them, so the sound is coming from behind you.

Its A isnt it?

6x9s are fine when you have no sub, if you low pass them, they can provide quite a nice bit of mid bass, Rear quarter speakers are just a complete waste of time.

Quantity of speakers means NOTHING, People need to realise, that more speaker isnt better (when positioned behind, it can make a system quietter, as its dragging the sound stage backwards) And you dont have to fill every single hole with a speaker!

No, I had 90% of the gear already, they simply installed it as they saw fit.

Agree totally that A would be the obvious answer, but then surely if they put speakers all round a venue it wouldn't matter which way you stood/looked?

Maybe they are, but I added them mainly for the rear passengers

This I am fully aware of, I don't claim to be an expert but I'm certainly no idiot. I didn't set out to 'fill every hole'

:rasp:

what i am trying to say, if you add up how much you have spent on 3 sets of speakers, and 2 amps, you could have bought a very good set of comps, a very good amp and had change. And these very good comps will EASILY fill a clio with sound, and would sound MUCH better than your set up now, and cost less.

Anyway its done now, and you are happy so.
