Seatbelt Problem

  Renault ClioSport 172
Hiya,

I have a question for anyone to shed a little light on.

I have the Airbag & Serv light problem which I can sort by just fiddling with the wires under the front passenger seat until they go off (and repeat when someone moves my seat again!).

Now, the driver's seatbelt now and again slackens up which I've noticed while I'm driving. This has never locked in place so far (touch wood).

Both rear passenger seatbelts either slacken all the way out without recoiling back in OR won't come out at all. After some pushing & pulling they eventually go back to normal.

The middle seatbelt is perfectly fine.

Does this problem have anything to do with the service light?

Do I have to replace my seatbelts?

the belts are mechanical (inertia reel), so shouldn't be affected by any problems you're having with dash lights

they shouldn't be locked under normal driving conditions - only when they're given a sharp jolt. you can check that the inertia reels are working properly by gently pulling the belts out, then yanking on them (they should lock).

if you're having trouble getting them out of their reels, it could be that there's some sort of alignment problem with the reels (could try removing the reels and reinstalling them)

trouble with them retracting is probably twisted belts (just as they leave the reels, hidden behind the trim panels)

sounds as though some fiddling's required
