selling a car without FRSH

  Clio 1.6 16v 2003

but it still having full service history.

sems a daft question but im gonna get my car done at the place that my family does. gonna cost £85 so £80 less than renault fot the first service 18k

one thing that worries me is that does the air con need servicing? as this is not included but is with renault.

thanks in advance

Id have at least the first service done by Renault.

A.) It shows the next owner you at least had one thing done by them.
B.) Often the first chance your car is checked over since delivery
C.) You can query if there are any warranty issues etc.

You dont skimp on other stuff, so why do people automatically think to skimp on their cars just coz its "cheaper"

I had a megane from new and was told the air con didnt get looked at till 3 years/36,000 miles, and they charge extra, its not included in the service price

As long as that garage is going to use geniune renault parts then not a problem but as Lee says Id at least get the first one done there!

Never had any of mine done there mate, but have a folder full to the rim of renault spares, parts, accessories invoices etc. Everything I buy from them has an invoice, so even though The AA did all my servicing using genuine Renault Parts - I have more service history than you can shake a stick it.

And to be honest, once it comes out of its warranty period... who gives a sh*t anyway? My Cup clocked 48k last week, and is out of "official" warranty in September this year.

Whats covered under a warranty anyway these days? Most of the stuff on my car ive replaced... not really sure its a Renault anymore apart from the fact its got a Diamond on the back and Im a member here!

well i ve had the car just over 2 years so i doubt i will have it for the 36k service as im lookin to replace it around sept i think.

i wouldnt say its skimping i just know this guy will do a very good job whereas u never know at renault the amount of bad stories i here!.

so should i jus get it done at renault, sure renault birmingham said 165 inc air con service, shall check tho...

Just get it done at your good independent local garage and keep the receipts for the parts used. Even the Renault dealers know themselves that the level of care, service and attention to detail is much better at a non-Renault garage!! The mechanics are all very capable of fixing all makes of cars and most have the diagnostic equipment these days, they value your custom and give you a much more personal touch ! :D

If you use a Reno dealer, theyll be "skimping" and youll pay thru the nose for the privelege.

My Cup was in for service and was thru the workshop in less than 45 mins - having spoken to a number of technicians and senior managers at dealers, this is commonplace - the servicing approach is driven by business/financial targets above all else. Independent required min 2 hrs - and I hung around while it was done and know the car got more comprehensive attention - it was obvious when I looked around afterwards.

Mr Sheep, Id always go with a garage I trust over some Renault garage any day of the week. At least that way you know itll be done properly. As long as youve got a FSH of some sort it shouldnt affect sell on value.

Unfortunately thats good in theory, but in practise a Renault FSH will probably be more valuable for sell on value than an independent FSH - a lot of people still think a main dealer service history is better for some reason...

I dunno about skimping, Im paying half the price for a service from a proper chain of garages that will use genuine renault parts and from the listing seems more comprehensive than renaults own.

Sod the resale, I am NOT paying 250 quid for an oil change.

Thats just it tho, I could look at your service history and say "hmmm, he had some back street charlie do the service".

Ring round a few more dealerships. I got mine done for £99 all the other local places charge £110 I think so its not worth going elesewhere for the small bit extra. The 36k is a bit different as it costs a lot more.

Also if you request your own oil is used, it will save money.

As well as if you have an induction kit etc, they will knock off the cost of the airfilter.

Wow you guys really have a hardship against your local main dealers eh!! Not every dealer is there to rip you, yes it can be a bit more expensive but if you have a couple of dealers near you its easy enough to get a good deal, and you will often find if you ask for some discount you will get one as they want the business and can afford a litte margin in the labour cost.

Taking it to a non franchise dealer even if they use genuie Renault bits does not guarantee your warranty, your engine fails Renault can question weather it was done to standard or not.

You sure it is the air con that they are doing and not just changing the pollen filter . They dont usually like to touch the air con as they usually send it to air con experts who will usally vac out the system, leak test it and re gas it for between 60 to 80 pounds.
