i got middos old one.
sorry i meant to put gearbox oil! lol, so its not worth it?
how much is an oil change?
thanks

Gearbox oil only needs done about 60k and even at that you won't notice much of a difference plus it's a pain in the bum to change.
I would get a new oil filter and 5 litres of good oil, new air filter, spark plugs and like said give it a clean up and make sure all the tyres are good and pressures right. Depending on the car I would change the filter if it was a high interval one. Coil packs can make a big difference but it really depends how far you want to go and how much you want to spend.
For everything above apart from coils doing it yourself your talking around £40-50.

do it your self its easy, get some quality oil i use millers 10w40 in the summer and 5w40 in the winter which is around £20. All you have to do is get it warmed up, jack the front up take off the oil cap, get the right square socket to undo the sump plug and let it spill itself into a bowl, tip a bit of you new oil threw it about half a cup then put the sump plug back in change the oil filer (got to take the front drivers side wheel off) when thats all done let it down fill it up with the right amount of oil (4.5 letres iirc) and you done :)

yeh you can do both if you wanted to, everytime i do an oil change i do the oil filter. Im not sure how much a garage charges to change the oil, i think they suck it out with some hoover thing which cant cost you more then £20 i wouldnt think?? airfilter you can do its about a 2 minute job and tyre pressures are pretty simple. spark plugs you need to get the special tool from renualt and the plugs can be quite hard to get hold of, i know halfords dont stock them apart from that a good clean and polish :D

if anyone is in hull tomorro and can spare some time i will appreciate it, if not im in colchester(essex) from sunday afternoon for 3weeks.
many thanks

I would change both, the coils vary depending on what car you have?
It can be daunting doing any jobs on a car but 9/10 you will be surprised how simple it is. The sense of achievement from saving yourself at least £100 is well worth it aswell.
Get yourself down to Halfords and get a Haynes manual for a Clio, it has a list of the items you should change at each service and a step by step guide on how to do it.

  R35 GTR
I had gearbox oil changed today, and I notice a slight difference, still notchy but gearchanges are smooth, less friction if you know what i mean.

  Nissan 370Z
well its not due for a service really just thought id give it on.
how much is a new oild and air filter then?
cheers

ohhh you there down for 3 weeks, then yeah i can defently do it for you during the week, i thort you meant just sunday. They a euro car parts near too in chelmsford and they do cheap parts so you can get your bits and bobs from there :)

alex

That will get you and air filter, oil filter and oil and if you might need to add a fiver or so to it but will get spark plugs too.

You could but i'm sure their about £30, If you change the oil and plugs you should gain about as much power as a panel filter would and at the same time keep your engine oil clean which is important.

Halfors won't do an oil change afaik but they will sell you the oil and filter.
I'm from Scotland so this might not apply but if you a chain of garages down their called budget they will do it with the right oil for £20.

  Audi TT 3.2 V6
i had my oil change done at hi-q, was £28 for castrol magnatec oil and a filter.

You could debate that for hours so I am not going to say yes or no all I would say is I would go for the right grade of oil i.e 10/40 or 5/40 whatever it may be.
Seriously a Haynes manual would answer a lot of your questions and with things like oil if you don't know any better I would just go with what Renault recommend.

Not sure bud that would depend on what engine you have?
Panel filters I couldn't tell you but seriously for all the difference it will make I would go for a standard one they will do a perfectly good job.

ah a man after my own heart, thats exactly what i do whenever i buy a new car full service. I always treated her to elf excellium, and really i wouldnt use anything less now. Could also do with a gear box oil change to make the gear box feel smoother. Just make sure if you supply your own oil they actually use it as some are b******s. For the time being just buy a panel filter like a k and n, when u have a bit more money try and source a second hand viper as on that car it made a huge huge difference

ok, so is it 5/40 this time of year?
what panel filters do i consider if i want to upgrade?
thanks
5-40 or 10-40 doesn't mater 5-40 protects down as low as -25 wheras 10-40 only protects down to -20degress. So it doen't matter 5-40 will portect more though when cold.

Servicing rules and what should be done if you follow Renault rules are here
