Shall I drop her?

  Golf GTI 1.8T
Im getting Mk1 172 alloys for my car tomorrow, just after opinions wether I should lower my car at the same time or not and how much it would cost for my car, I don't need any real fancy suspension kit. Anyone on here done it to there 1.4S?

Lol!
Just trying not to do anything to tasteless and 'chavy'. But it's annoying me looking jacked up at the mo. Gonna be even worse with less profile tyres.

Also another 'girly' worry for me is insurance. Tesco want £133 to insure my new alloys, and said they have to know how many extra horses the k&n is going to give before they can quote, how the eck do I know!

ive got 15'' wheels with a lower profile tyre (195/50/r15) and when i lowered it 35mm i had a similar gap to when the car was on the full size 55 profile.

as such coilovers are on there way :)

cheers peeps. Johns nearly got me set on a Spax or Apex kit, both about £250 any difference between them? Cant decide yet on the 35mm or 60mm kit though.

Well picked up the new alloys today from BrynO. They are absolutly mint and a great bargain, thanks! Cant find a mark on them. Think I'm gonna go for the 60mm Apex kit. Looked about on the net and cant get them any cheaper than about £233 I think, have seen on bbpt's website and they do Apex so gonna go speak to Andy in the next few days, and get my new wheels thrown on at the same time. Then she'll be looking a lot nicer for the south mimms meet. Then spray job with colour coding in a few weeks.

Spoke to BBPT and they can do the Apex -60mm fitted for £360 (with CS discount).
Think it was David there, he recommends going for the -40mm's because going too lower could affect the driving in a negative way, ie excessive tyre wear, not the best handling, and a few other things I can't remember.
Their 172 turbo is on 15's and droped 40mm so I'm gonna go over and check that out in the morning.

I have the -60 Apex Kit, I have got no excessive tyre wear and I think the people at the AirField days can vouch that I have no problem handleing either, I guess its just choice.

as stated above, when i lowered mine on Konis, unless your going to stick with standard tyres and alloys i would go 60. the 40mm konis would be nice if they are on standard tyres, otherwise you cant really tell.

im selling my konis for £175 ono (shameless plug :D) but for £360 i think you could get a better deal. If john can do them for £250 then its only £60 for a garage to fit them. Therefore a £50 saving :D

Or buy mine and have a £135 saving lol - i'll even chuck in some 60mm spax springs if you change your mind

Of course if you handy with a swan neck spanner, you can fit them yourself!

At: £269.24 from MotorSportWorld its all gravy!

Sounds good, I think I'll go for the 60's. You got a pic of your car Saner?

Middo how comes your selling them?

Motorsportworld was where I had found them the cheapest too. Not to good with mechanics and I don't really trust my mate how works in a tyre & exhaust place although he has done both his cars. The fool reacons it will scrubb on 15's with 60mm drop hahahaha

opted for coilovers because the lower profile 15's means i need a larger drop. i did buy 60mm springs to go with the koni dampers but changed my mind - very much a spur of the moment thing lol.
