Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 any good?

  mk1 Octavia VRS
I'm using this in mine, no issues at all. A while back it was only £20 for 5l at Euro Car Parts. I'll probably order a couple more if/when the price drops again.

  A special one.
This is what opie recommend I put in my car.
I bought 10 litres and got 2 x 1 litre top ups.

Was in France (in Carrefour supermarket) a few months ago and this Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 fullysyn was only 23 euros for a 5l jug. The Elf oil was super cheap too.

I fully rate the pro S. I did a track day in my diesel with oil temp gauge Sat in the 120's all day and have used that same oil to the now due service and it still sounds and runs better than it did with cooking spec oil. Peugeot DW10's sound like crap near a service so I used to half the interval on normal oil. Don't have to now.

Used it in a ford CVH as well and the lifters didn't tap when really hot like they did when the cheaper stuff got too thin.

Normal driving though and most oils these days are pretty good :)

Using whatever Renault put in in the Cup and it seems fine after three double drive track days.
