shift light

  mk2 1.2 16v
I don't have one.
But judging by other threads I've seen it's not a shift light, it's to tell you you're being a bit of a spanner and to change up so I'm assuming you can't alter when it comes on.

well to be honest, i never knew my car had a shift light till the other day i read it on here, only drove my car a week before i locked it away till january so just getting some information on it

You cant set the shift light.

But i dont know what happens when you have a remap or have the limiter moved

I thought it was a warning light. Not a shift light. Just to remind you that your about to blow up your 'box.

It is. It's an 'over revving' warning light or " Watch out quim lips, you're going to hit the limiter" light, whichever you prefer

Certainly not an 'optimum gear change indicator"

the box will take it, the bottom end won't take much above redline if sustained. It's green, it's good to change up when you see it. if you were doing damage it'd have limiter lower and light up red or summat.

Surely the Rev limiter is the cars way of saying "please change gear or ease off the throttle" why would they put a light in to do the same job?

Would love to know the Correct answer to this

pmsl, I use my ears. When they start bleeding because of the noise I'll change gear.

Anyone got any vids of a stock 172 on full chat? Does it sound as s**t outside the car as it does inside?

Surely it should have been put where you can easily see it though. When I'm doing those sort of revs I don't normally have time to casually glance down to the bottom right hand corner of my dials. Although after 4 years I do now seem to be able to see it without actually looking at it!

It comes on before the limiter.

But lets face it, it's a gimmick.

It comes on only just before the limiter, and you can see it out the corner of your eye - but I think it comes on after the power has started to tail off a little so can't see the point in revving it that high once out of 2nd gear.

He does have a good point, warning lights are normally yellow or red depending on the severity of the problem.

Ah yes the t**t light. As said no point revving it that high unless of course its modded, peak power is before then.
