Shift Point ?

Im new to the 172, where is it best to change gear ?

I find that a nice shift just after 6k seems to keep the car going at a good pace, where a later shift the car feels slower?

Am i imagining things as my old rallye was straight around to 7k !

Where does everyone change?

Slightly different in each gear but after 6250rpm (Approx) the power drops and then you will soon hit the limiter.

Car revs to 7.2 iirc but i find a 7k change gets the best out of the car when gunning it.

Didnt think that was a shift light but a over revv light ?

Ill have to experiment when i have chance

Also is it wise to run it on 98 ron as sugested on the filler cap, much difference?

Its a 'change gear now you're about to hit the rev limiter you tool' light.

6.5-6.75k revs

Yeah just change when the light comes on when you first get it, it's also a good idea to learn to change with the light I think, as when your engine isn't quite warm enough the light comes on earlier, to stop you hitting the lower limiter

hijacking the thread somewhat, i filled up with v-power last night, and noticed a difference this morning, engine still cold, pulling away.

i test drove a ph2 on a 51 plate and that had 1 on. is it the same with the esp only some 172 have it?

Some have it some don't its no use anyway its not a shift light its a warning your near the limiter light which ins't bright enough and you don't want or need.
