side strip painting

Hi all, im looking to code the side strips on my 1.2.

i have a few questions that i need answering prior to this :approve: .

What have people used to code their panels - spray cans, spray guns( i do not have a spray gun)- are spray cans with mixed paint from halfords good enough?

Where have people sprayed their strips?- garages ( if so is heating required), DIY/proffessional spray booths?

What grade sandpaper is to be used during the process?

Are there any existing and proven guides around that would i could print off and follow as i go?

As well as these ^^, any other info would be of great help, thanks

lol i would but dont have a credit card- i was just waiting for that reply

Aside from this, if anyone has any info, i would be very grateful

I'm wondering this too.

I was wondering if Renault would sell spray paint of some sort to match their colours so that I could just spray my black plastic and it would match the rest of the car.

yh, i mean i have a small pot of paint that came with the car so i was just wondering if mixing this same colour into a spray can would give an ok finish.

go to a place that sprays cars and get the colour matched up, but it will come in a tin rather than a can most prob so you will need to have a spray gun

Go to a local motor accessory place . Most of them mix paint in aerosols now and it's usually cheaper than Halfords .

Thats where I got mine! you will need wet n dry sandpaper, 180grit, and 320grit.. rub them all down so they are smooth and the plastic bumpy effect is gone.. then get plastic primer and put about 3 coats on in half hour intervals...leave over night.. then rub down with the 320grit which makes the primer nice and smooth. Next repeat the above but with paint instead, leave over night. Get some clear laquer and spay just like you did with the primer and paint.. You dont need a spray gun, but you can get one of these from the likes of halfords for a couple of quid:

Just remember to be patient and dont rush it.. also be careful not to put the layers on too thick and be wary of drips.

hope this helps.. ;)

If the strips have like a bobble affect on it you will need to

1. have a 400 grade wet and dry to rough the surface up a bit
2. wipe down with wipes
3. prime with ever white or grey depending on colour of car ie black use grey
4. use high grade wet and dry 1200 to take lumps out of primer
5. leave to dry
6. spay light coat of car colour
7. wait 10 mins to dry then another light coat
8. do 3-4 light coats
9. leave to dry
10. lacquer with light coats again need to get this bit right

thats very basic all in the prep and the last bit really
