Side Strips

  Renault Clio MK4 RS
Hi there,

I want to colour code my side strips but I want to know the best way to do this. I know there will probably be a thread for this already so if you could link me to it that would be good.

Im a total rookie at this and not got much experience in spraying. I know i will need to prep them by sanding them first but what is the best way to get the best result for a black clio. I was going to buy some off ebay which were originally on a 172/182 but i have a 5 door so the side strips are longer at the back of it on the other two doors. Ive heard it is easy but i dont want to do it and mess it up so want to know what different grit sandpapers to use, good primer, spray, laquer?

Thanks!

if you want a good finish, I would recommend getting a body shop to do it, cos I did mine myself and am ridiculously unhappy with the finish I got from it.

But if your gonna do it, you will need to sand down to key it, just make sure its fairly smooth before you do it, used some Hycote plastic primer + normal primer, then some ebay paint and lacquer matched with your paint code, by autopaint I think the company was.

I did my own initially. Sanded with 600,800,1200 and used the paint and primer from halfords.
I couldn't get them off so I ended up doing them on the car...
They look good, you can find them on my Project thread

However, they weren't enough, so I got Sprayshack to do them for me, along with coloured bullets.
and now it looks sexy :D

Until recently someone opened up their door into my car and ruined them :'(
