SKY Q

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4
Moved my Sky Q to a wired solution as apparently the mini box in the room directly above the main box struggles to contact each other, anything Wifi related to these boxes appears to be total shite tbh, not great all, god knows how it would work in a larger house, not at all I would imagine without one of those horrible Wifi Boosters.

Also even though all of my connection issues are now sorted, both of the boxes will still randomly freeze or not come out of standby requiring me to pull the power out of back to get it working again, this happens to either box a few times a month.

Sky Q boxes are a great idea badly executed, think that sums them up quite well.

To be honest, I was in a very similar position, but since having the booster installed and the latest update mine has worked flawlessly (main box + 2 mini boxes spread over a pretty large house)

Ive just ordered Sky fibre max installation for my new build house,it says it comes with this Sky Q.

What speeds am i looking at to stream 4k? Does it depend on your area how fast it is?

Right guys bit of advice-

What do you guys pay for sky q? With variety package?

Im moving house at end of month. Currently have sky hd - in my name. Spoke to sky live chat today and said im moving but would like sky q box when i move. They said that they could do that for £40+ £12 extra per month.

Told her id just cancel as id be paying £100-150 to get sky dish installed (as its another flat and sky installation team are useless - so independent all the way) and it was going to be too expensive.

New customers get sky q box for free and the same package (variety) for £32 pm, but she wanted me to pay £40 upfront and £44 per month.

I think i can get a new customer deal if my girlfriend sets it up in her name at new address, on different account?

Should i try them again for a better deal or just cancel and take the new customer deal at £32pm? I think we'll get the mini box which is free for first additional tv, and extra £12 per month, so it will be £44 per month - but means id have it over 2 tv's

I get all channels (inc Movies and Sport) a 2tb Sky Q box and a minibox for £35 a month. No activation fee or upfront fee. New customer

Ahh i caved too soon lol, after being offered it for £40 for the variety with no upfront costs and skyq +mini box, in my mind im still £16pm better off than what i was originally offered so still winning :)

Just need to get an installer for sky dish - guy wanted me to use sky engineers but last time they came out for my current property i was faced with loads of excuses due to being on the roof of a block of flats- so told them not to bother with the 'specialist' heights team and will sort it myself

Yep!

Cancelled Virgin TV as I really couldn't cope the the Tivo anymore, have a friend who works for sky and they were giving me the code but being rather slow about it, so just tried online chat...

"thinking of leaving virgin...friend can get me the friends and family discount...you're also offering the same deal through CPW"
"sorry, you'll need the code"
"ok, bizarre, why are you offering the same deal via CPW"
"would you like me to tell you about our other offers?"
"unless they're the same price as the one I can get, no"
"hold on, let me speak to my manager"
(that one always makes me laugh)
"great news, I have a code"
(colour me surprised!)

Being installed on Monday and I don't have to hound my friend for the code now. Fixed for the 18 months term of the contract when I will say, "too expensive, I'm going back to virgin".

It's hilarious really, how many people must just blindly click on the new customer deal at £80 without realising if you push their online chat you can get it for less than half of that.

Has anyone got their main and mini boxes hard wired in? We've had Sky Q hard wired in since having it installed (3-4 weeks) and it works perfectly, we've got Sky Broadband going in on Tuesday and I wanted to know if the boxes will work as a wifi hotspot even if they're only connected with an Ethernet cable?

Yes they will, you need to set up the mesh network though with them being close. I've done it once and can't remember how I did it but it works.

We only hardwire boxes.

Broadband swapped over to Sky today and the main box is hard wired in and I've been able to set this as a wifi hotspot but I can't seem to be able to set it up on the mini box in the bedroom. Any ideas?

Did they not set the mesh part up? You may need to factory reset your mini and set it up again

Cheers I've managed to sort it in the end, had to reset the mini box and then connect it back to the new router and it all seems to be working great now.

I upgraded to Q without 'cancelling'. I am foolish.

Just knocked sports and movies on the head because it's mega money at normal prices.

I also have a weird situation where the main box is upstairs and the small box downstairs, but so far it's caused me no issues at all.
