Currently have 195/45 R15 tyres, need a new set on the front and they look pricey. Looking on Black Circles I saw their special offers section, and there are alot of 195/50 R15 going cheaply. Is there a huge height difference between them, 5% of the width of the tyre doesnt sound too much...

195/50 is the popular cheap size use them there little difference in overall size
The car will be doing 3.5% more speed than you used to think you were doing so if your spedo was correct (unusual since cannot think of any Clio which uses that size tyres so your wrong anyway) 60mph before would be 62.1mph so nothing huge but I guess your not running th right size tyres anyway as it most likly should be 185/55/15 in wich case your speedo at present if your car was originaly fitted with 185/55/15 then 60mph indictaed is infact 57.1mph for you and going to 195/50/15 you'd be doing 59.1mph when indicated 60mph.
