smoothed boot

how much work is involved? i want to keep the number plate bit but get rid of the grab handle, anybody got any pictures?

Depends who's doing it. Yourself it's a fair bit of work, a bodyshop it's nothing to complicated. Just need to figure out a way of opening the boot.

there is a fair bit of work involved mate. firstly, figure out how you are going to open the boot like said. most people use an electrical solanoid popper to do this.
body work wise, the best way to start is to remove the handle, grind around the recess to bare metal and weld a plate in were the handle usto go. then grind that down and planish out any high spots.
then you get the filler out and get some over the top of it. dont just put it into the area, you want it to spread out about 5-6" either side of the plate so you can feather it out into the rest of the panel.
dont for get to scuff up the area that you are putting filler into or it wont bond to the surface and will fall off.
you will probly need to put 2 or 3 lots of filler in sanding it inbetween each layer.
once the filler is done, you need to feather out the scratches left by the corser papers used with something a bit finer like some p320 then use some red scotch around that area. then you need to mask it up and primer it with about 2 or 3 coats of high build.
when the primer is dry, sand it down with some finer paper using a block (very important). then go over it with some even finer paper untill ther are no scratches but try not to go through the primer.
when this is done scotch the whole panel with some grey scotch and mask up ready to paint.
to paint it you need to make sure that you cover the primer so that you cant see it anymore and flick the colour either side of it to blend it into the rest of the panel.
if you are doing it yourself, i recommend practicing on some scrap first.
then once it is covered and not seethrough, leave it to dry and laquer over when it is. again, if you are doing this yourself, practice first. to laquer it just put a medium dust coat on first then when its tacky, put a nice wet coat on and leave it. if you put too much on it will run, if you dont put enough on it will be dry. if you go too slow it will run and if you go too fast you will get an orange peel like finish.
this is all done with spray guns as if you are doing it yourself but are going to use rattle cans my advice would be dont bother, it will look crap lol.
hope this helps:D
