So it turns out i'm not a fan of the Polo GTI...

So i bought this instead. 53 plate 1.8 16v Astra Coupe Edition 100. Which basically means heated leather and Centenary Blue paint, it would also have had BBS wheels standard although i'm not a fan of them anyway! These wheels are Omega MV6's and look great imo.

Basically the Polo was just too small for my liking and i felt like i should have been 17 driving it. I wanted to get back into a Coupe but without the silly costs of the 330Ci i had. This ticked all the boxes.

After agreeing on a knocked down price me and my Dad drove 255 miles to Motherwell in Scotland, to be greated my a shed load(!!!) of stone chips on the front. To say i was unhappy is an under statement. I'd asked so many questions, got the owner to send me loads of pics and he never once mentioned them.

In the end i was blunt, named my even lower price and said "take it or i'm going home without it".

Mechanically it's great: 67,000 miles - plenty of service history, receipts and you can tell it has been maintained well. I'd say i've got a really good car, just a shame it's going to have to go into the body shop so soon. But once that's done i'll have a car i'll finally be happy with and i can keep for 2 or 3 years!

There's two by my work, one convertible and one like the above. Tbf both look mint, like the colour.

Looks nice that. I'm a huge fan of the Astra Coupe

Turns out quite a few people are, i've had a lot of compliments on it since picking it up! I've never been a huge fan, i didn't mind them but never wanted one. It was purely a case of it ticking all the boxes.

That looks mint!

are these rare? Iv'e not seen one on the road I'm sure!

Edition 100's are relatively. 1000 made to commemorate 100 years of Vauxhall.

I'd sooner rock the Reliant.

Haha, my Dad's project!

Really? Over a Polo GTi?

100% yes. I've never hated a car so much.

Thanks people :)

Are these turbos?

Other than the stonechips you mentioned, the rest of the paintwork looks very nice in the photos.

Those wheels suit it too!

Thanks. Yea, the rest of the paint is pretty good. Could still do with a machine polish though to get rid of some swirls! Something i'll do once it's been to the body shop!

They do a 2ltr Turbo, a 2.2 N/A and the 1.8 N/A like this!

Jesus. Not my cup of tea at all sorry.

Z20LEH would do it some good

Perfectly fine, not everyone can like the same things.

Turbo is a no no. The idea is to save money for my own place, a Turbo would hinder that. 2.2's are awful engines too so that left me with the 1.8!

I looked at one of these awhile back as I cheap car for a few months but it was the 2.2, instead I bought a vectra Sri with the 2.2 engine and as you say bloody awful engine its now been broken for spares due to using more oil than fuel lol but Yours looks very nice in that colour with those wheels

Not keen on them either.
Few found here, proper chav wagons. They reckon they're ballers with the top down in their Astra's.

Interesting and brave decision (for here on CS) to switch from a GTi to an Astra. I've actually quite liked that shape of Astra - unique, but quite subtle too. It's a shame that you couldn't get the Turbo version - but as you say, it's a cost saving exercise too.

Looks well on the Omegas. :)

How many gearboxes did the polo go through?

As Astra's go, that's OK. But it is still an Astra.

None luckily lol. It's still up for sale atm. Sick of people offering swaps.

How was the polo in comparison to the 172? Did it feel much smaller than the 172?

Yes, felt a fair bit smaller. Also for 'German build quality' it wasn't really that great. I honestly think my 172 was built just as well.

Yea, i didn't expect everyone to like it. This forum pretty much pulls apart anything anybody buys anyway unless it's an m3 lol!

That was basically the boxes i wanted to tick: nice car that stands out but isn't really lairy, economical, reliable, cheap to buy, more grown up than the Polo. A Turbo would have been nice but just defeats the goal!
