there's something i love about them..

I have been offered a px on the Bora with the above and im very tempted. Its my mates boss' and i must say its savage. Quicker than his 06 RS4. All it is im worried about their reliabilty and fuel consumption. I earn good money and tbh i can afford it but there's somthing holding me back.

Brief engine spec is -

Fully Forged
garret t34 turbo
external waistgate and screemer pipe
dastek management
frontmount
avcr boost controler
4 branch manifold
big injectors
etc

Anyone had any experience with them? The GTiR forums are pants. Are they Renault 5 esk where if you look after them they are actually ok?

Quick hand grenades with no pin.

They're really, really ugly, but in a cool kinda way. :S

the 'but' is that they go like nothing on this earth. I saw one racing an evo 8 some years ago not far from me down some back roads in Woldingham.

They also suffer from extremely weak syncromesh problems and are generally quite unreliable....and old now

Gearbox is a weakpoint apparently.

But they are a hoot to drive, and silly quick.

Most have a exhaust akin big enough to put your head in!

Your not helping. Think i have some serious web trawling coming up..

Hideously ugly things with multiple weak links in their mechanicals. As says though potential to be stupidly quick but to me they've money pit written all over them.

A few mates of mine own like 5 between 3 of them, and a couple are running serious power, theyre much quicker then higher powered evos etc but theyre constantly having gearboxes rebuilt.

Mate had one at uni, i personally did a 12.8 second 1/4 mile in it ... was running about 300bhp.

He only ever did the gearbox on it once in the 3 years i knew him. So perhaps its also a case of ill treatment that gives them the bad rep.

I was all over one like at rash at Donington, so i wouldnt say they go round corners particularly well ;)

This one is 370ish or so he says. Im not sure tbh but even with 300 theyre quick. This one is batty. Handling isnt great as you say but i know this. It still feels better than my Bora haha! Its got uprated arbs and on uprated shocks. One thing that is pants is that its got the standard brakes which are shocking at best. Scary infact.

This gearbox stuff is what scares me. Being 4wd it's no doubt a pain in the ass to swap. Plus parts are hard to find nowadays.

I think if I was in your position id do it, if it causes issues, fix it, sell it, live and learn and buy something else. But im a mad fooool

Knew this would be the Pulsar from the title! Horrible things! The looks alone are enough to put you off, but sound and go well!

  Turbos.
Pulsar had even worse brakes than the UK version, they were not suitable for the car at all. If he corner cuts on brakes, what else has he skimped on?

They're all dogs now. Just a total chav car. In modern terms, you expect a turbocharged 4 wheel drive hatchback to be great, but they are rubbish.

When i was a kid i f**king loved them, but i drove one when i was about 21 and was massively disappointed. Wobbly body, understeer, crap gearbox, no brakes, massive lag, hilarious interior. Didn't help that i had built it up as the perfect car...
