So you can MOT 2 weeks early - but if you fail?!

As title really - I know that it's going to fail on something so I was tempted to get it done 2 weeks early to find out what it was then get it done for when the current one expired.

If it fails the early test, can you still drive it on the old MOT certificate or will it come up on the old bill's computers as being failed?

unless they deem the car too dangerous to be on the road you can drive it.

Nope, you can still drive it until the last MOT is valid/until its expiry date. Stupid but true, this was three years ago mind, could well have changed, dont think it has.

that doesnt make sense...

and MOT is to declare a vehicle roadworthy, if it fail, even on a broken bulb, its not roadworthy
You can pass, fail, or fail with it being certified dangerous and unuseable.

If you get the third, you can't even drive it home, not like a normal failure. Can't remember exactly what it's called, but you get a certificate saying you can't use it at all. Like if there was a great big hole next to the seat mounts or the steering didn't work.

"In fact you can have the Test done up to a calendar month before the expiry date and have the new MOT forward-dated to the expiry date of the existing certificate."

Useful tip that. And still my dad always leaves his until the 11th hour...
