you will have to be prepared ot travel for a good 106 gti, unless your lucky.

Tell me about it mate, think public transport and the lame-ness it brings will be with me for a while

Sod it mate, get a £250 motor with a years MOT and drive that around for a bit whilst you build your budget up.

Id love to but Im off to uni next month so gaining a bigger budget is not an option. Just think Im going to have to set my sights lower.

  Vectra :(
VTS mate. Lots of good ones going for your budget, especially the mk1 ones can easily be had for that money if you look about and wait a while.

take a look on the saxo forums. I seen a few minters up for @ £1800 in the last month

I'm on a £2k budget for a new car, plenty about if you look on AutoTrader etc. Car prices are generally higher where I am (Wiltshire) but there are 8 VTS' within 100 miles of me, some that look mint and have low mileage.

Cars on my shortlist and general condition for £2k...

Saxo VTS - 1997/98, 70k

Clio 1.8 16V - 1995, 90k (although very hit and miss, seems to be little in the way of a standard price for these)

Seat Ibiza Cupra - 1997/98, 80k

306 GTi-6 - 1997/98, 80k

Very unlikely to find a 106 GTi from my experience, although occasionally a low priced bargain turns up from middle aged ladies etc who don't realise the value.

Hi guys, IMO on a £2k budget you going to have to compromise a bit, it will either be a very worn out sporty hatch or something thats not been thrashed to its death and a bit less sporty. I was looking for someone a while ago around £2k and found the best all round car with air conditioning etc, low insurance group, nice looking (in black, blue, silver look best imo) is the ............... Ford Puma. They are not that old and very reliable and go pretty well. Take a look at this one HERE.... OR at this LINK HERE there are tons to chose from!

Last time I looked there were none under £2k, however within 200 miles of me today (and this is Autotrader miles, for every 20 you need to add a further 10 on to be remotely realistic!) there are now 9...a CAT D, 3 with over 115,000 miles, two without MOT or Tax and one that "needs attention".

That leaves two, which happen to be the two that are furthest away! Both 160 miles plus, which on Multimap are actually over 210 miles.

So probably a bit unrealistic on a strict £2k budget in all honesty, unless you are very lucky and a good one turns up locally.

You need to move closer :D I have travelled over 200 mile round trip a fair few times, just to find the seller wasnt being honest in the description and they act as if butter wouldnt melt! gits!

  RS mk2 172
£2000 you say.....well I got myself a nice CBR1100 for just under that and it makes my 172 look like a pedal car in the performance stakes!

  tiTTy & SV650
lol students on Honda Blackbirds whatever next.

go for something older, £2k will buy a mint 205gti or mk2 golf gti,
