Some hefty repairs :(

  Jap Box
Right well today the cars sprung up on or two more problems to add to the endless list :(

Currently it needs a new clutch, which I can get done for £220

Cambelt will most likely need doing soon (no history on this being done, cars on 130,000miles) is there any way to see if this belt has been done, as Id have no clue when it was last done really. £250ish id have thought for this.

Rear passener wheel bearing is going now so will replace the back two as a set most likely as I did the same with the front 2 months back, what do people think the rough cost of this is?

Think my rear shocks are truley fucked now too, car is lowered and the garage did tell me its on the maximum level the standard shocks can take, rear bounces quite badly over bumps (load of people complained about it today too after hitting heads on the roof :rasp:) what would be the best uprated ones to get?

Not going to be a good month on cash :(

Thanks

Greeny.

It hasn't had a cambelt in 130k? lol didnt think to do this earlier? It must be itching to snap.

Oh no. Are you going to get it done?

I would of thought bearings would be cheap. Get the belt done, rapido!

This. Get it done!

Bearings should be under 100£.

Thanks, ill have to give the usual garage a ring tomorrow to see when they can slot me in :)

is that for 1.2? Is it worth it?

Yeah its a 1.2, well it gets me from A to B and has been a pretty decent runner up till now, and ive got insurance paid up till August, 6 months tax and MOT till september so pointless throwing in the towel now.

Yeah im going to get it done, shocks being the last priority really, or will they cause damage if their used and their on the way out?

No, I have no idea when its had it done, bought the car with no service history, id assume it has had the belt done at some point as otherwise im sure it would have snapped by now as its 12 years old too.

Not on a 1.2 it's not!

Mr Clutch or similar will do it for a around that price.

If it was me right now, I'd break it, then buy another.

You're talking about £600 of work. For the price of a few bits, you'd be able to buy another!

i.e if you take into account the 600£ of bits, sell the doors, wings, interior, bumpers, glasses and wing mirrors...

You'd have a grand or so.

clutch at £220 seems v cheap unless fitting it yourself??

Local garage does the labour cheaper for me if I provide the parts because ive used them for everything :)

Like others have said. I'd break it get rid!

Hmm, but its just the hassle with finding another one then, changing insurance, tax, and this ones a good runner when its fixed :rasp: it just seems that all of this has popped up at once (bearings + shocks are my fault I must admit)

I agree, there are a few nice non sport ph1's popping up all over the place, pensioner owned with lower miles and fsh :)

No hassle, get on autotrader, buy yourself a cheapo motor. Break yours on here, bin the rest. Done.

Good point, just had a look on autotrader, ebay, pistonheads and on here and theres nothing within 100miles at a decent price :(

They could cause you to crash if they are that bad.

Ahh great, im getting it all looked over on Friday anyway with a quote as the clutch has got worst today.

Yeah I will keep on looking, mines not going to fetch much in spares anyway, bodywork is partially not sellable as the ones sides the wrong colour as it got a cheapo respray at some point.

Had it looked at today quickly while I had the chance.

Rear bearings + shocks are fine, just people being fussy c***s in the back because the cars lowered most likely.

Clutch is indeed on its way out but he said it should be fine if I dont trash it for a bit, cambelt is fine and he said it looked to be fairly new so must have been done at some point recently.

Front brakes need some work done to them but ill get that in with the service.

Cost will be about £350 maximum, got the brakes here and most service parts anyway :)

Rear bearings and shocks are piss easy to do on the 1.2s yourself so you could save yourself loads in labour costs.

My first 1.2 8v snapped its cambelt at 63k so I'd be wanting to get it changed just for piece of mind.

Front brakes are easy to do aswell so if your confident enough you could basically wipe out all labour costs except the clutch

Yeah me and mate are doing the brakes, oil, spark plugs and filters, might even have a quick cleanup of the engine bay too as its in a state.

Hmm he did say the cambelt looked to be fine, and really if it did snap the cars on 130k so a doner engine from the same model would be a better option as a local place does that for £250 providing you source the engine for them. Did a good job on my mates focus too when he needed it :)

Could be needing a new front subframe sometime soon but it will hold for a good while, think their about £90 odd second hand.

Had to fork out £75 for a new windscreen today anyway as the 4 chips in mine got worst after some big f**k off pothole decided to make them play connect the dots :( ahh well new one looks good and I got some kind of tint going on at the top now too as they asked me if it had one standard and I said yes :D
