Some people are ignorant as hell- *help*

  RB 200
Right so this morning at work someone drove into a oil barrell with the forklift and 208l spilt across the car park.. All over my wheels unfortunately the 200 was right by where it happened, now god knows why they didn't try and move it properly?? but anyway, after that, without saying ccould everyone ( 6 people ) move the cars so we can clean it up, they decided to tip absorbent granules all over the car park, going all over the 200. In the window channels and everything. Its scraped and scratched to hell... And im terrified to wind the window down because I kknow what will happen... Even more sscratches and on glass, nightmare ... Now there's no signs up that say I'm parking here at my own risk or that the company won't be held responsible, and I see this as them being idiots and not doing things properly... There's not even any signs up that say spillage or anything ... Anything I can do about it because I'm not happy at all my 6 month old car now has more scratches than my 6 year old car aand looks a right tip.

Anyone got any advice,

Cheers!

Can't you put a complaint in with someone? Surely they must have insurance of some sort?

Is it your work that have caused all this or a neighbouring company??

My work... boss just said "you shouldn't have parked there, tough" Proper livid. Don't even know How to go about getting it off.
However I do it the car will be wrecked...

So go back in there and speak to your boss.

''Mr Boss, I have a bit of an issue. My car was parked where I was told to park. It has now got oil on the tyres and is covered in sand and oil granules which apart from being a nightmare to get off, are going to damage my paintwork. What are we going to do about it?''

Don't take that!
"you shouldn't have parked [in the car park]"
Is he some sort of actual c-unit?

Provided you are supposed to park where you were, the damage was caused by an error made by someone working on the part of your company. Tenuously, it's similar to if a builder destroys your house when just trying to knock one wall through. They should have a liability insurance or similar to cover this kind of thing.

s**t deal for you though fella, bet you're raging

Doesn't sound good at all mate :( I'd hose down the car to remove as much as possible gently, then see what you are left with to PW off. Probably best to cover it in a Citrus degreaser to remove the oil etc. after hose down.

It's annoying that some people just don't care about cars in the slightest.

Wrecked is probably a bit far. Do you know anyone with a polisher?

I'm sure you'll get the scratches out. They'll only be very light marks.

Unfortunately if that's what your boss has said, arguing etc is only going to make it worse for your job situation.

It's annoying but not a lot you can do.

Boss sounds like a c**t. I would get a few handfuls of these granules and throw them over his car when no1 is looking.
I would get the snow foam on it before touching it with anything. Give it a good blast with the lance aswell.

  RB 200
Aye apparantly " I could open a can of worms " if I keep going on about
It, I'm all out of snow foam "/ ha... Someone wiped the bonnet with a paper towel too whilst I was coming to move it.

He'll not entertain my claims at all, luckily I have the pics from CSS when it was clean and completely scratch free!

Im foaming!! And I'm not paying someone to machine it, these lot can!

Your work has a responsibility to clean up any oil spills straight away and contain it so they have done nothing wrong.

Unfortunatley for you your car was in the wrong place At the wrong time and the company should help rectify it. all depends on your boss tbh, if he is as much I'd a bell as he sounds then unfortunately I don't think there's anything you can do apart from learn from it and not park your car near oil drums again.

Is it a big company or a local one?

Tbh, if I was the boss, i'd let you finish 2 hours early so you could go and wash it.

I certainly woud entertain compensating you financially to get it polished.

Ah see the oil is stored inside, at the other end of the building, theres a loading bay there too ... So I can't get why they carried it to the other side of the bbuilding instead of driving the van round, also we have a specific van with a tail lift for delivering the big drums... Which wasn't used... It's a huge national company.... And a car parts dept.

I would be taking it higher up than your boss then. He sounds a bit of a prick.

Blast the a high pressure air line down all of the shuts to see if that helps, I'm sure someone in newcaslte will have a snow foam gun with foam, or if you're stuck you're more than welcome to come down to peterlee and I'll foam it for you

I know it's easier said than done as he's your boss, but stand up for yourself, he's bang out of line. Just say Look I appreciate these things happen but they could of just asked me to move it. Now my new car is covered in grit and scratches and it's not on.

If you say tough again, I'll go over to the salt box with a spade, and by 5 o'clock tonight you won't be able to find your car you inconsiderate c**t

Sh*t, that's not good mate. :dapprove:

How bad are the marks? Pics?

Well some dopey van drive - says it all.... Decided to try and wipe it with paper towels of all things. So there gouges and swirls, I've just got my phone and theres no decent light to get good pics took plenty of everything though... Good evidence...

Think I'll order some foam, it's going to rain anyway, so that'll take it off I hope ... Still fuming!

Dayum, your boss sounds like a douche.

Bring her round mine and we can have a detailing sesh.

I've also just wondered what would happen of the barrell rolled off the truck on the car or a person? Not good...

Personally I'd cover the car in a fairly liquid mix, or a proper degreaser mix, through a pressure washer. Try to take as much off as possible.

Someone I know spilt an oil pan of oil over the side of a clio and it was a right mare to get off, even with snowfoam.

  RB 200
Yep do it. I was going too later but I've just got my phone. Not really the greatest of pics but the whole cars like that ... Looks like its been burnt with a polisher from a distance. Close up... Millions of evil little scratches!

Harsh for you mate, wtf were they thinking using paper towels?! I take it no one there cares for their cars?

  RB 200
Yup, paper towels are evil enough! Never mind when the cars covered in gritty stuff... Gunna wash it up later when I'm home, asses the damage and see what it'll cost to get it machined, unless it's not salvageable then ill be getting these lot a nice bill!

This is terrible!

Providing you weren't parked where you shouldn't be the company I imagine is liable seeing as it was because of a staff members actions thats caused the damage, not to mention the fact they've damaged it further trying to rectify the mess they'd already made. Barrels of oil with a fork lift... was it on a pallet? Health and safety field day otherwise!

Then as I said, go higher than your boss. If its a multinational company you'll be better off tbh

I'd have chinned the boss if that's what he said... however that probably wouldn't help the situation.

If it's oil involved a quick snowfoam isn't going to touch it. Try and get your hands on some Autosmart G101, mix it fairly strong and go over the whole car with it.

  RB 200
Is there any signs in the car park saying "Cars are left at the risk of the owner, this company is not liable for damage or theft to vehicles parked here" ?

Nope no signs regarding parking and everyone parks there, took pics of the walls etc to prove there's nothing saying so :)

Fairly liquid deals with oil pretty quickly maybe try that then wash it. Suppose its a de-greaser!
