Something not right.....

  None
I installed a sony head unit into my 182 shortly after getting it and then upgraded from the standard front and rear speakers, 120 watt sony in the front and jml 140 watt in the back, now this is almost the exact same set up as i had in my land rover before getting the 182 and it sounded pretty good in that, however something doesn't seem right in the clio, the sound seems to distort really easily in the clio and even removing the low range tones doesn't seem to work, i can't figure out what's wrong, any idea's guys?, cheers.

you most probly need to reinforce the speakers, there is a thread on here which shows you how to do it i believe, and also it probly wouldnt hurt to put a bit of sound deadening in

also, make sure the two wires on all the speakers arent touching in anyway as this can almost 'short' the circuit as such and make the sound quality awful. i had this problem

Thanks guys, i saw the guide on making thickening pieces out of mdf so i'll give that a go and check the wiring too while i'm there.

check polarity too

Hi Matt
could you explain about the polarity thing for me?, is it something easy to check?, i'm sure when i wired the new speakers i put the wires the right way round but as they're not the obvious black/red then i may have got it wrong?, strange thing is that i have never had this before in any car, usually i can remove the low tones with the sony setting option but it doesn't seem to make a diiference in the clio, maybe i'm missing my 600 watt sub that was in my land rover :), i don't want to take all my boot up with the sub in the clio though, is there a concealed sub option for small cars?

there are plenty of concealed sub options like underseat subs but obviously nowhere near as much depth in bass.polarity means that both speakers must be wired the same way,if you have wired one speaker-positive to negative 2nd speaker negative to positive then sound quality will be pretty poor although this usually cancels out the bass

I would suggest you double check that the new speakers terminals aren't in contact with the door panels....

With regards 'Phasing' issues;

As MT AUDIO states this usually causes cancellation rather than distortion, but to clarify phasing simply use a 9v battery....Touch speaker wiring to battery terminals, when 'phasing' is correct they will both react by pushing the speaker cone outward....Any other reaction would indicate they are out of 'phase'....
