Sorry, another Magnex thread!

I have a mk1 172 (silver), I am looking to get a magnex exhaust (heard good things!!) and do you reckon I should get the 6x4 or the twin 3.5. What would suit the car better. I am unsure.

Those who are good at the photoshop thingy maybe do something?? no pressure!!

Cya m8s!!

personally i dont like magnex and i dont like either of those tailpipe options.

BUt then again, everybody on here seems to love them.

ohh, hit a nerve! what do you like then?

Ya see, my current exhaust is rusting away, need new one, people always talk about magnex (it seems) and seemed good from where I stand. Other recommendations would be gratefully recieved!

no, not a nerve, just dont see what people like, high cost, average build, dedicated lack of research on their behalf and coservative designs. They just build what theyve been building since day dot.

Neither designs suit the car really, a single round tailpipe is almost always the best look, twins hang poorly under the bumper and look like a massive addon, and they reverberate a hell of alot morethan a single. And the oval...its mahoosive!

What do i like.....erm simple stuff, not a big fa of many of the after market designs, primarily as i dont really go after look. My systems are almost always competition systems.

Are the compettion exhausts non-mot passable?? Got any links for the competition stuff, like to have a butchers??.

I am not going for just looks, just would like a good exhaust!!

Yeah I have heard good things too, do you need to declare to insurance?? Or should I ;) ??

What about devil exhasts as used by the LAD cup?? Any good?? I prefer performance over looks (as long as it aint butt ugly) and have about 500 nicker to burn! Any recommendations by anyone would be helpfull.

OMP (cheap), Supersprint (middle) orbisound (expensive) and those are the most easily available, but youll find a multitude of systems from other manufacturers.

Not problms with the MOT as it doesnt effect emissions.

quite liked my magnex.seems to be built ok,fits ok,pretty large pipe used in between silencers and has a nice sound without being to loud.my oval pipe fits perfect with the bumper but i do agree that the twin tailpipes hang a bit low.

dont even consider NOT telling your insurance, the consequences are unthinkable, they are in the their rights to void the entire policy without a debate whatsoever

modded car + dont tell them = nightmare big time

Well, I will be getting my twin magnex in 2/3 months, so obviously im gonna say its the best to get - but, hey, whatd I know

the rear hanger on the 172 is a strange and overcomplicated design..............you cant bend the hangers in the normal way.

Dont know if K-Tec use a different approach to hanging their twin 3, since mine fits really nicely. Hangs perfectly, straight to the car, and with a single finger gap between tailpipe and bumper. Admittedly since Ive got a Mk 1, there is the is the useful recess along the bottom edge of the bumper which ensures that the exhaust is higher up.

the magnex exhaust comes with another bracket that you bolt to the car to give the rear box more support.my magnex lines up with the rear bumper ok.

ive just got a magnex twin 3.5" system on my cup and the fit is perfect, doesnt hang low, looks superb and sounds really nice, not stupid loud like some max power corsa. the build quality is spot on and imo looks so much nicer than the ktech twin 3"

Rich (RB_172) has the twin 3.5 magnex and IIRC he spent a few hours adjusting it getting to fit properly it all depends on the fitter and whether he/she is willing to put the effort in to get it right.

i had a magnex twin 3.5 on my mk1. it did sound really great, a nice burble.

however on the down side my car seemed to loose its 5k rush it had when standard. however it was still v-quick and did seem to have a little more at the very top end. it also voided my warranty acording to a reno garage when i complained about engine mounts!

i have to say the magnex i had on my clio was not the best build. i had one on my old saxo which was great but the clio one put me off magnex. i now have a pug sport on my 106 which is a compition zorst and boy can you tell. it has changed the car 100%. its made for pug by scorpion and the build is great.

oh yeh the magnex took r-tec 2 1/2 hours to fit and still knocked.

6x4" Single looks a little too big IMHO for the Clio back end (no offence intended BTW)... Why not go for something like that Scorpion that Neil posted a link too, and how about considering a Devil like mine? I started off with the Devil de-cat, unsilenced center section and backbox, then decided this was way too raw and boomy on the Motorway, and went for the silenced center section and backbox - single 3.5" round - looks and sounds sweet, and I have no complaints whatsoever: Its unobtrusive around town but makes itself vocal when youre giving it beans - just what I was after.

Ill try and get a pic and sound clip (somehow) uploaded if youre interested?

ive got the oval backbox and i like it.the system took a bit of adjusting to get it to fit right.although it was a good fit it wasnt totally perfect.it has a nice sound and i think its improved the 5k boost of power that you feel.
