Sound bar recommendations

Our TV sound is poo. Mrs has suggested getting a sound bar, rather than surround sound as she thinks it means string cables under the carpet. (Does it? It used to. But guessing wireless is a thing now).

What you got?

Sonos Beam

Pretty happy with it but then it's my first move away from TV speakers too. Massive improvement, especially in bass, which is surprising (to me) for the size.

Supports Dolby Atmos too which is good.

I went for the Sonos Arc, 2x ones as surrounds, and the Sub, all wireless. Only needs power. It depends on your budget as it does all add up. The Arc is good on its own but is really good with the additional other Sonos items. Would recommend it.

I have Bose sound bar 700 + wireless sub 700. Cost is silly but it sounds great with an app to fine tune the sound. The bass will rattle the windows if its up too high. There is a cheaper version also, think its the 500.

In my living room I have my old Cambridge audio amp and some Dali (sp) speakers. All hidden and the amp hasn’t been turned off for 5 years now. 😂 The sound is awesome, absolutely awesome.

And in the kids play room, we have a generic Samsung/hitatchi/whatever was at Argos sound bar. It sounds really good, but nowhere near as good as the living room.

Same here (y) to be honest it was the only one that fit inside my fireplace, which was lucky as I wanted Sonos anyway! Great system. Read a review before purchasing saying it was okay on it's own, but really comes alive with the added sub... however it's totally not needed imo, bass is good and anything more the neighbours would be complaining!

I’m using the Sonos beam and sub in the living room. Couple of ones will be added in the near future.
Sounds great as is and the app is brilliant.

Beam in the spare room on its own which is decent enough.

Sorry for the derail but anyone got the Sonos One speakers? Thinking of replacing my Nest speakers with them to have a complete Sonos setup downstairs (all open plan)

I’ve had this soundbar for just over a year and it’s really good. Wireless sub and makes a hell of a difference with movies etc

I've also got the Sonos Beam, wall mounted below the TV, absolutely love it.

I've been having a look at various ones for my kitchen, fek their crazy money for what they are 🤣

I picked up a Polk from R/sounds last week, for the new kitchen Snug area. For the price it’s absolutely fantastic! Wireless sub too. Think it was only 170 quid.

Used to have amp and speakers. Then I had kids... now TV on the wall, soundbar in the fireplace, not a cable in sight. Wouldn't say it sounded any worse to be honest, but looks so much better.

I’ve got a cat that chews cables. His name is Vader and is generally an utter b*****d. No idea how he has survived 🤣

We have to arm everything up, so the less cables we have to hide the better.

Do you have this? Been looking for a while but nowhere has stock

Have the Sonos Arc, really clear sound but you definitely need to add the sub for movies.

I don't, unfortunately :(

If I can stop spending money on other crap all the time I would be able to save enough up to buy it, but....... :ROFLMAO:

I have/had that Onkyo and back to back tested it against the original Sonos soundbar and then a gen 1 beam.

It sounded better than both to me so sent the Sonos back each time.

But it’s still a bit soundbar like itself and never really felt like a full on separates type system.

I didn’t have the optional mid speaker (wasn’t fussed on the rears) and felt it did need it to bring some clarity to voice tracks.

I say had as it started to go a bit funny, then when we had our little one I just removed it and it’s sat in the garage now doing nothing.

But it was a really good little setup that sounded very good for its size, and loved the amp+sub little combo unit. Also had good support for a decent range of audio types.

TV purchased yesterday and now I'm looking for a decent soundbar.

Not sure on budget but wasn't really looking to go mad.

What have people got in the £100-£200 range?

I found a £75 Creative on Amazon with sub-woofer that looks really good but I feel like that's not enough money

If you can up it a bit you can get the new, cheaper Sonos Ray for £279...

Ray: The Small HD Gaming Soundbar | Sonos

Do you know anyone that works for JL/Waitrose? If so £245 after partnership discount. I could order it for you but only worth it if you're local to Essex and could pick up.
