Speaker problems

  Renault Clio Dynamique 02
I have recently installed some component speakers by Alpine. I heard some vibration in the passenger door, and I thought this was a problem with the door panel. However it would seem that, having taken out the woofer speaker today, that the cone is making the noise when it vibrates. This does not happen on the driver side woofer.

I thought it may be out of phase, but whatever way I put the spades into the terminals, it still does it.

Is there anything that can be done to stop the cone from making this annoying noise? Or is it just a case of me having a crappy cone and short of returning it I can't do anything?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Cheers for the reply

I do not think it is blown. The speaker outputs fine and at the same level as the other woofer

I guess the sound could be described as the sound you get if you touch the cone while the cone is vibrating

sounds like the voice coil could be hitting the back plate(give the same sound as you describe)

which means it's F.U.B.E.R and you need a new one

Bugger - no way of fixing it or making it less noisy? It still sounds as good as the driver side woofer, just that damn wrrrring noise

What causes the voice coil to hit the back plate?

Shouldn't have bought it on the net - going to be a hassle getting a replacement.

way to find out is take it out an carefully push the cone down to see if it makes a scraping noise

if it does bin it
