Speaker upgrade

  Clio 1.2
Upgrading speakers in my Clio, but not very technical with wires, is there any speakers that will just fit into the wires that are already there

  1.2 16v clio
you should be fine looking for 5.25" coaxials u will need to cut the connector off and crimp terminals on it theres no point narrowing your search looking for ones that say they fit clios

Coax's sound dreadful though. With the tweeter on the dash AND in the door, it's too harsh. IMO anyway.

Dash out job for the tweeters, I had to get a stanley and cut the hole bigger to fit mine, although I cut it so that the standard ones still clip back in. Not really a hard job, but a bit time consuming if you're doing everything right, using heatshrink etc... well worth it IMO.

Also, what Daniel said is 1000000% true. the previous owner did this and it sounded like an iphone in a tin can.

Not true that you can't get direct fit - Pioneer do a set that 'hot swap' called the TS-Q131C. Having said that, I've got them in my 182 and wouldn't recommend them as a one stop shop solution. If you're keeping the standard head unit, you'll be disappointed if you like loud and bassy. Someone suggested to me to amp the speakers, but not sure how much difference that'll make. I ended up snipping the wires to replace the back ones anyway and really wish I'd just done it properly instead of looking for an easy option the first time round.

You can pick up a wire stripper from the likes of b&q for £10 that's a useful tool anyway. It really isn't hard at all unless you're wanting to replace the wiring with any wiring provided. I personally opted to use the renault wiring (don't know if this really makes much diff with the standard headunit anyway!) rather than the wiring that came with the speakers. Only 'hard' part about it was I had to recycle the spade connectors off the ends of the provided wires and fit them to the wiring already in the car. Whilst a little fiddly... really wasn't hard at all. You could avoid this by getting speakers that don't require spade connectors and instead have screw down fittings that clamp the bare end (After stripping) of the wire.

It might sound like a lot more effort and hassle, but it's not really. Talking an extra hours effort really, though I'm sure I could do it again faster now I've done it once! The biggest extra effort is being unsatisfied, having spent near enough £100, that could've gone toward better speakers in the first place/new head unit.

As for fitting tweeters.. it's a piece of piss if you've got the right tools. I ended up buying a set from B&Q for £60 but it's a worthwhile investment for the future imo! There's a video on YouTube that was particularly helpful for dash removal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwLlZr8g8_c

Story of my life. Lesson learnt, you get what you pay for. Don't skimp on anything if you want/expect night and day results.

no but you can by adapters.

Just don't have a clue what ones to buy, I know about the adapters etc

so you asked the wrong question originally?

No? I want to know what speakers fitted in the Clio

most 5.25 speakers :)
