Speed sensor on the gearbox, is it Canbus? or direct pulse?

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
I have removed the renault ECU from my car. I now just run a Omex 600 with custom loom.

My car is a psh1 so i have a pencil sensor in the gearbox for roadspeed (off final drive)

How can i wire this to the clocks to bypass the old renault loom that I removed? Does it go though CanBus i.e does the signal from the sensor need de-coding to the run the speedo?

f**king Renault.

iirc, the speed sensor signal wire splits into 2 and one goes to the ecu and the other to the clocks, though I can't remember which pin

it's just a +12v pulse, once every 0.2m iirc

Sweet. Why does it go into the ecu too? I could just meet the wire up at the firewall conection block. I know which pin is speed (white wire)

Does it need grounding!?

it controls the fan speeds and the limiter... I think it controls fueling or something too, as mine behaves differently with it unplugged (esp on overrun), though it might just be a placebo effect :D

the sensor needs 3 wires, yellow is an ignition live, black is an earth and the white wire is your signal wire

sweet, can i just spit a iginition live that is near to the sensor and run it off that

don't see why not :)

I think it's original power supply comes from the input to the fuel pump relay
