^ i've got the bosch one's. Cheap as chips and do the job, no performance advantage although the car does seem to start better....

thats cool then - I just checked my ebay account and saw that I have actually bought the bosch ones not splitfires so all is cool. Are they easy to fit - I know they are easy on a normal engine but you cant even see them on a 172 - I presume they are on the plenham under the engine cover??

You have to remove the plenium. 4 bolts i think. Then it's a deep socket 16mm iirc. Piece of cake. The hardest part is getting the plug out lol...If you don't have one of rubber bits inside the deep socket.

think i have got 2 spark plug removers - bound to both be the wrong size but sounds easy enough. Thanks Ali.
Hope they have come in the post today now

Take care not to cross thread when your puttin' the new plugs back in .

A good tip is to get some 10mm flexible plastic tubing , put that on the end of the spark plug to start it off , if its not on the thread properly it will spin so you know its gonna cross thread , then once you've started it off use the plug socket .

Plus i always put a tiny bit of copper grease on the thread , makes it easier to get em out next time .

LOL...Me too! :(

Plugs only need a very low torque setting. And cylinder heads are all very weak. So be gentle. When it feels vaguely tight...Stop!

If you put the end of the spark plug in the plastic tubing , then start to tighten it up that way , IF YOU DON'T get it on the thread and its gonna cross thread the tubing just spins round .

Once you've got it started with the tubing , then use the plug socket to tighten it up .

Do you understand what i mean now ?

basicly if it doesnt move your in the hole and keep going, if the tube spins on the plug then your not in the hole so start again

If the tube spins , then your not on the thread properly, because the tube is only tight enough to hold the plug just enough to get it started .

If you think that your on the thread and you use a plug socket straight away , it only takes a couple of turns then your threads fcuked up :(
